Beware of Greensky
Complaint Regarding GreenSky Financing and Customer Service I was extremely excited about the Eco water filtration system I purchased through an Eco representative at Costco. Unfortunately, in my excitement, I failed to fully understand that I had signed up for a GreenSky 12-month no-interest loan. While the Costco credit card and its perks were heavily emphasized I believed I was applying for a Costco credit I understood the concept of a credit card and assumed that the purchase would be paid in full through the credit card, as that is how I manage my other credit cards. Had I understood that I was entering into a separate financing agreement with GreenSky, I would have simply paid the entire cost of the system at the time of purchase. After the 12-month period ended, I began receiving bills from GreenSky. I immediately contacted Eco, and I was told that I did not owe them anything and that my account was clear. I subsequently contacted GreenSky numerous times, both by telephone and in writing, attempting to explain the misunderstanding. Unfortunately, my experience with GreenSky was extremely disappointing. I was ultimately told, in essence, “You owe the balance and the interest, and no one is going to help you or make any adjustment.” I was given the same response regardless of whom I spoke with, including supervisors and the CEO REPRESENTATIVE.What was particularly disturbing was the manner in which I was treated as a senior citizen who was genuinely attempting to resolve what I believed was a misunderstanding. I was not asking GreenSky to simply erase a legitimate obligation. I was asking the company to recognize the circumstances, consider the apparent miscommunication surrounding the financing, and work with me toward a reasonable resolution. Instead, I was repeatedly told that there was nothing anyone could do. I was left with the impression that even escalating the matter to the highest levels of the company would make no difference. Not even a penny was adjusted. This experience has completely changed my opinion of COSTCO AND ECO using GreenSky. I will never use this financing company again. More importantly, I would strongly advise consumers to carefully examine any agreement presented to them at a retailer before signing—particularly when they believe they are too excited about a product that they really like. If a company chooses to partner with GreenSky, I would also encourage that company to consider how its customers may be treated when a misunderstanding occurs. I purchased the Eco water filtration system because I was excited about the product. Unfortunately, the financing experience overshadowed that purchase completely. My message to consumers is simple: Read every document carefully, ask questions, and make sure you understand exactly what you are signing. Based on my experience, I would stay away from GreenSky financing. Sincerely, Michael Poindexter
