I dont think it is worthy to get petplan... It is not the cheapest and the claim process is very time consuming and complicated. My own health insurance is even easier. I always get reimbursed 1 days after my massage therapy. I dont understand why a pet insurance claim can be more annoying than a human insurance....

Rate increases and coverage reductions based on number of claims
I have been with petplan for 14 years but since they got a new underwriter life has changed. I have a 14 year old
who has been healthy until the last year where he incurred a lot of medical expenses but has pulled through the issue. When came time for his annual renewal petplan raised my premium from $1642 to $3,600. Petplan won't cancel you but they will raise your premium to try to force you to cancel your policy. It seems as though they only want to insure healthy pets. Be sure when looking for a insurance company that they do not base your premium on number of claims and age of your dog. Petplan also has the right to change your coverage at any time. I also had a friend who had her coverage reduced due to having a back issue with her dog

Complicated and not worth it
Submitting a claim to Petplan is actually more complicated than submitting to my human insurance. To date, they've denied every claim that I've submitted on the (faulty) basis that my pet's condition was pre-existing (it wasn't). I've filed an appeal but have yet to have a response from Petplan. In the meantime, they continue to send me marketing material every few days to get me to continue subscribing.

Not the company they used to be...(the U.S. version of this name, not U.K.)
Note: I originally posted this review for the wrong PetPlan. This is the one in the U.S. that changed since I signed up with them. Since I wrote this review, one of my cats has died and I'm waiting for PetPlan to pay for the final bills.
After I lost 3 cats to cancer, thyroid, and kidney conditions prior to my current cats, I thought that insurance made sense to help pay the bills. However, the way this company now operates is just plain wrong. It's insensitive. Don't do it.
My advice: Read the fine print with any insurance company. And don't expect that what you buy today will stay the same. In this case, it surely didn't. And now my cats are older and have pre-existing conditions, so I can't switch. My choice is to keep paying this company or go without insurance and hope for the best. I'm still deciding which is worse.
PetPlan used to be a good insurance company that paid their claims and charged a reasonable amount. They changed underwriters a few years back. When they did that, they charged a lot more and covered a lot less. They pay BY THE CONDITION, EACH plan year. It's not a yearly inclusive deductible, so don't be fooled. One of my cats has 3 conditions. They put the $300 deductible against EACH condition. So, though I've spent over $1,000 on this one cat, and $447 on one condition alone during this current plan year, they have paid me a grand total of $13.17. Yet I've paid out hundreds, perhaps even thousands of dollars to them in the past 9 years. Again, just don't do it. Not with this company, anyway.

PetPlan has a Plan!
PetPlan has a Plan!
Been member of PetPlan for 4 years and have had opportunity to use it 4 times. This is what i experienced;
1 = If the form is correctly filled in and all the i's are dotted and the t's crossed; and it is not an excluded procedure than you will get a refund of up to but no more than 80% or less depending what is included and excluded. BUT;
2 = The refund will be in the form a cheque which means;
- it has to be 'raised'
- than it needs to be posted
- than it needs to be delivered
- than it needs to be taken to the bank
- than it needs to clear
Although PetPlan withdraw the monthly payment from your account the categorically refuse to refund electronically. So no matter what, after the stress of your puppy or pussy needing medical attention than you have all the extra work of having the vet fill in a special form and than you fill out more info and than all the running about with the cheque. I avoid going to my bank like a bad cold; the only time i do is to go to the teller machine to deposit my PetPlan cheque.
3 = PetPlan believe that they can increase your payment by over 85% without explanation or due process. Our two pets cost us monthly each $67.92 that is a total of $125.84 per month making it $1510.08. They increased the regular deduction to $126.89 per pet per month making a total yearly cost of $3045.28. That is an increase of 201.66%. Not even our politician would allow themselves such a pay raise. No explanation, no reason.
Shame PetPlan, Shame!

Can't deal with a simple paperwork task …
Can't deal with a simple paperwork task so hoping I don't need to make an actual claim. Will be looking elsewhere once renewal is up.

Pet Plan has been virtually useless for us...
I will share the shorter version of my problem with Pet Plan.
I haven't been overly pleased with them in general. However, the most recent attempt at a claim has me seriously considering a change to another Pet Insurance provider.
Basically, my dog was bitten by another dog. The bite was serious enough that he needed to have a procedure done and a tube put in to drain the fluids. We obviously submitted a claim to Pet Plan for the vet bill and expected it would definitely be covered. Our plan has always been 90% coverage with a $200 deductible per claim/incident. (Trust me, I hate that it isn't an annual deductible already).
Anyway, we submitted the claim, which was near $500, expecting to get close to half of the money back from our insurance provider. A situation like this is one of the reasons we decided to invest in Pet insurance in the first place. Well, to my surprise, we receive back a letter with no check inside the envelope with a little surprise message.
Apparently, our deductible went up from $200 to $450 on a per claim basis without any prior notification from Pet Plan. Therefore, we didn't even know that our deductible went up so dramatically until they responded to the claim. Had I known that the deductible went up more than double, I would have immediately started looking for another insurance provider, especially considering that our dog is only 2 and we have a new 10-month-old puppy that we want to be insured as well. A $450 deductible on a per claim basis makes having the insurance virtually useless, especially at the dog's younger age. Yes, I realize that things can certainly happen in regards to accidents and illnesses, but this was far too high of an increase without notifying us.
When I contacted Pet Plan, they basically said, "oh, we changed underwriters and they increased the deductibles." Great to hear after the fact. Perhaps that is information you should notify your policyholder about.
I explained the situation to a representative at PP and they told me they would send it to escalations and get back to me in a few days. That was over 3 weeks ago. I have followed up with e-mails and even tried calling but I keep getting voicemails to the box of the woman I was told to contact and no response via e-mail.
I would hope that Pet Plan will honor the original deductible for this claim, considering that we were never informed about the dramatic increase. However, my main hope is that there is a pet insurance company out there that is actually worth the money. I am starting to wonder if pet insurance is just a complete waste because nothing seems to get covered and there is always an excuse not to cover virtually every claim I have submitted. When I finally have a claim that they approve to cover, they increase the deductible so high that they aren't responsible to pay anything.
Hopefully, I can find a pet insurance provider with an annual deductible and reasonable premiums that will be worth the monthly fee to protect my pets. Pet Plan has been a very disappointing experience and with the latest changes in their underwriters and policies, it seems they have taken a major step backward from what used to be one of the most widely respected and used pet insurance companies in the country.
PS - Sorry for claiming this would be the shorter version of the story. I guess I had more to vent than I thought, lol

Hi Howie, I'm very sorry to read about your dog's recent injury, I hope recovery is going well. I understand from your review why you would be frustrated with our lack of a timely follow-up. I would like the opportunity to coordinate a call between you and a Petplan team member to review the details around the claim from the dog bite, as well as clarify the changes you will be seeing in your policy in the future. Please email me at [email protected] and provide me with your policy number and phone number and I will be sure to respond to you today.
I look forward to your email response so I can have a Petplan team member contact you about your policy today.

Does not live up to promises
I have been paying for 3 years an insurance policy with petplan for my 2 cats, never had a claim. My cats have been followed by a vet since day 1. Recently one of the cats got into a fight with another one and needed treatment following infection. I filed a claim with petplan, attached all the required docs, even attached the medical history of my 2 cats as I was fearing my vet would not be prompt in sending the required docs. Well, they claimed I missed the 2012 history... Not sure how this affects my cat's recent fight but they never honored the claim, so I did not renew, because if they are making such a fuss about a small $300 claim, I am sure it will be hell if I really need them for a serious condition. It is impossible to talk to them except when you want to sign up or pay.
Do not recommend at all!!!
