Most people looking for pet insurance end up considering Pet Plan and Trupanion. I chose Pet Plan and it was a mistake. It was the cheaper option but you get what you pay for. They say they don't increase premiums due to claims - it's a downright lie and I have proof with two separate insurance policies on different dogs. Also, if you make a claim, they will adjust down your coverage and increase your deductible in the next year, and you don't have a choice in the matter (and you can't go to another insurer at that point). It also takes them forever to pay out on claims. They are truly horrible to deal with, great on sales, terrible on service. I ended up getting secondary coverage through Trupanion when they downgraded my coverage, but it's only supplemental. You need to make the right choice upfront or you will literally be paying for it after the fact.

I started with this company when my dog was 5 years old. They started at $42.00 per month and kept rising the fee up to $65.00 now. I tried to lower the coverage and they told me I could not change the deductible because I had a claim, which they did not pay. Seems like a company made for profit and do not show they care much other than your money.

Watch out for Petplan -- they used to be a great company, I have three pets currently insured with them, with an additional two in the past. They used to have reasonable pricing and policies with stellar customer service -- NO MORE! First they changed their underwriter, then the renewal prices went WAY UP with significant changes for the worst in the coverage. Now, without any notice, they have stopped paying claims that are submitted 90 days after the treatment. The rep says "that always been in the policies but we didn't enforce it." That may be the case but in the past, I was told repeatedly by representatives that past claims would be paid without any problem. We did not get any notification of this change. Now I have hundreds of dollars in claims that I haven't filed for treatment and medication. I'm stuck because of my pets' preexisting conditions. Stay away from PetPlan.

If I could give zero stars I would! I had a claim rejected due to a ‘pre existing condition’ my dog never had! I asked for the documentation that pet plan had (under GDPR I’m entitled to it) but they didn’t send it, instead I received an email telling me what they had already told me over the phone. I did ask my vets for the documentation they sent to petplan and there is no mention of it being a ‘condition’, it was classed as post operative precaution. No wonder Petplan won’t send me the documentation I am legally entitled to. I’ve been paying this company over the odds for 7 years, for a policy that isn’t worth the paper it’s written on. I think Petplan just take your money with no intention of insuring your beloved pet! Disgusting!

Have been with PET PLAN 10 years and am very disappointed with the services, that I am receiving. I was told by customer service that there is no problem filing a claim as long as the policy has not lapsed, apparently a new management has taken over and what was common practice is no longer valid. I discovered that the representatives say what ever they need to , maybe to get you off the phone. The misrepresentation has cost me thousands , left me broke,so I am picking up the pieces. They are also denying claims because they are 1 and 2 days late even though they were closed on Christmas and I submitted the claim on the 91st day.Rejected of course. THEY LOOK FOR REASONS AND LOOPHOLES TO REJECT claims. ITS a business - cold and harsh. They don't deal with pets only paper and computers. I told so many friends about this company I will also tell them my experiences.

I got pet insurance with petplan and was with them under a year. When it came to processing the claim, despite their automatic email reply saying they will get back to you in 10 days. They did not contact me until over a month later. Throughout the claim process, no one contacted me to give an update or to inform me they may take a while to process. No one even bothered to contact me to inform me they had decided not to process my claim and made a decision it was classed as a pre existing condition that won't be covered. I had to phone the company to follow up the progress of the claim to get all this information! I even had to phone them to find out the claim got denied and to get them to put it into writing. What poor customer service. Despite me disputing that the illness was diagnosed at the time I had insurance, they still refused to process the claim. A total waste of money, don't bother with this insurance. You're better off putting the money into a savings account for emergencies.

I'm shocked that so many people have rated this insurance plan so highly. This is the first time I've filed a claim and I hope to never have to file a claim again. It seems that if your vet doesn't fax in all your pet's medical history ( I think after almost a month of dealing with this I've learned what the issue is. The emergency vet clinic has been emailing petplan my dog's records instead of faxing)this has resulted in my claim not even being looked at until all the documents are in. While the representatives on the phone have been polite no one can seem to locate these records. How can an organization only have one method of receiving documents? This has been an extremely frustrating and exhausting experience. I'm extremely dissatisfied.

The worst insurance company Ive every worked with. They always find loopholes in their terms & policies not to cover your vet expenses. I've been with them for 6 months now. I took my dog to a vet for different reasons a few times. PetPlan denied all the claims. $0 paid back
