Risk of PII exposure if your data is lost with remote blood draw services
I initially rated Getlabs five stars based on my previous experience on how convenient this service was. However, I recently discovered that LabCorp received my specimen without an order form, which has caused significant concern. Now there is an investigation. The GetLabs technician visited my home, I personally witnessed (provided ring app video screenshots) the technician place my paperwork (lab order form) which contained my Personally Identifiable Information (PII), into the plastic sleeve along with my specimen. Despite this, LabCorp informed me via email that they received the specimen without an order form when I was reaching out to get my results prior to my Dr appointment. As a result, I now have no lab results, an upcoming doctor's appointment, and an ongoing investigation into a potential data breach involving my sensitive PII information. I am extremely concerned about how this was handled. Word of advice, be cautious with these services, your sensitive information, such as your full name, date of birth, address, and patient ID, is often included on paperwork that accompanies your specimen. Unfortunately, if this documentation is mishandled or lost, it can pose a significant data breach risk. All I can advise others to safeguard your information, consider the following precautions: - Verify the Technician's Credentials: Ensure the individual is a verified representative of the service provider. - Confirm the Paperwork Process: Watch the technician place your paperwork securely in the designated sleeve or container. - Ask for Confirmation: Request proof of specimen drop-off or delivery receipt whenever possible. - Follow Up Promptly: Contact the lab within a few days to confirm your specimen was received and processed with the correct documentation. Staying proactive can help reduce the risk of PII exposure and ensure your lab results are handled correctly. And with the reply from Getlabs..they can’t provide me with any proof or documentation of what they claim they followed any procedures!! I’ve already reported this business to the AG and other higher agencies to have them investigated!!!

Thank you for sharing your experience. We take concerns like this very seriously. We have thoroughly reviewed this matter and can confirm that our technician followed proper procedures. Photos from the appointment show that the lab order and all necessary paperwork were securely placed in the designated sleeve alongside your specimen, as required. Additionally, the specimen was signed in by the LabCorp staff at drop-off. While we have processes in place to ensure all documentation is properly secured and delivered, we cannot control how the lab handles the specimen after it’s dropped off. However, we are actively working with LabCorp to understand what may have occurred and to support their investigation. We value your feedback and are committed to maintaining high standards to protect our patients' information. If you have any further concerns, please reach out to us directly.
