Well it's great that everyone else has been having such stellar service while mine has been very slow. My phone disappeared three weeks ago and with it my access to my entire digital life. I didn't have insurance thru my carrier but I did sign up for AKKO bc of an offer all I think. Anyway I filed a claim for theft and it just kind of sat in limbo because I couldn't get to my inbox where the receipt for the phone was. Eventually the phone was found, albeit destroyed. So I canceled the first claim and filed one for damages. I followed the steps by taking pictures....then taking videos....then taking it to a store for diagnostics and a quote...and now it's been two days since I submitted the quote and I have heard not a peep. This claim was filed a week ago. I need my phone number back before I lose it forever.

Making excuses, not giving me my phone (FIXED!)
My phone fell into water. Akko asked for pictures and video of the screen not working, which I provided.
They then told me the phone's company (FIG) had shipping delays. I reached out to the company and they said it was not the case - there were no shipping delays. I forwarded this to Akko, and was told "They are not allowing us to access their system so we can't get you the phone now." This seems to be bogus - not true. I posted a complaint on BBB, and they responded that they would give me half the cost, or another option for a similar phone (which did not suit my needs). I rejected this. It has been FOUR WEEKS since the claim was filed. They have stopped answering my emails, and it seems as if they are trying to push me off and not send me a phone. It is really frustrating, as a phone is something that is usually needed asap. I am very upset, and considering my legal options. I do not trust Akko at all at this point. DO not trust.
UPDATE: After posting this review, AKKO reached out to me. They sent me the full value of a new phone plus tax. The issue has now been resolved to my satisfaction.

Be careful when signing up
I was offered a month of free Akko phone insurance after I bought a used phone through Swappa. I signed up, and then I was charged for 5 additional months. I do not recall being warned that I would be charged if I did not cancel. Certainly the email I received did not warn of any recurring charges. I assumed I would be *ASKED* if I wanted to continue after the free trial. But I was not asked. This was a bad experience, and I think Akko needs to be clearer about its recurring charges. Akko also ought to make it easier to cancel. You can't just click a button; you have to jump through hoops. That being said, Akko did allow me to cancel, and they refunded the charges. So my cancellation experience was ultimately positive. I still think the signup process is unclear, the recurring charges are not disclosed adequately, and it's too easy to get charged beyond the free first month.

Hi Brian,
Thank you for your feedback here. We wanted to clarify some of the information on your review and provide context for people reading this review.
As shown in the screenshots provided to you, we make this information on being charged after one of our trial offers visible to customers from the beginning of their registration process to avoid any confusion.
In addition, you have to enter in your payment information and agree to our terms prior to activating the offer. We do this to make it very clear about how this process works, and ensure it is clear customers will be charged after their initial offer period.
In regards to cancelling your plan, there is a "Cancel my plan" button within the account settings pages of every customer's account. However, we will certainly pass along this feedback about your feeling it was difficult to cancel as we are always looking to improve our customer's experience using our apps.
Thank you for giving AKKO a try, and we're glad we were able to get your full refund processed and help clear this up for you

I am not impressed
I am not impressed. First, it was a nightmare purchasing coverage programs for my new phones and tech. Their app just couldn't work and it took several emails before we got that sorted.
Now I had to make a claim. They wanted information from the nonfunctional phone and had trouble understanding that I couldn't get the info because the screen was dead. After a few emails, they caught on and referred me to local shops to get a Diagnostic Report. The first shop doesn't work on Google pixel phones and the second won't provide a the required report in writing. Upon learning this, and more emails, AKKO provided 2 more shops to try. Only one of them said they could provide the report. There's a problem with how AKKO recommends shops for customers.
When I took the phone into the shop (Asurion), I was told that they don't provide written quotes or reports and they don't work with AKKO so I would need to pay for the repair and get reimbursed by AKKO
Being tired or this "easy" process, I had the phone fixed and provided the receipt, IMEI & Serial number to AKKO. Now I wait for their response but am not holding my breath.

Slow service
Took them over 48 hours to even look at my claim just to respond with a generic email asking for more information despite it all being provided during the claim. Replied within an hour with the requested information and now has been another 48 hours since that initial reply. I don’t see why it’s so difficult to get a claim approved for a cracked cell phone. Other companies will look at the claim the same day, and approve it the same day. Over 4 days now, and still have not gotten the okay to fix my device. If you want a fast and smooth experience, get insurance elsewhere.
Update: Eventually my claim was taken care of and they waived my deductible cost, so adding +2 stars to the review. Still would like for the service to be done faster and same day instead of waiting 5 days.

Hi Kevin. We're so sorry for the delay you experienced with your claim and we assure you the longer wait you had is not normal for what our customers experience.
As such, we did extend that courtesy waiver of your deductible, providing you with an additional $99 for your claim reimbursement.
We look forward to providing you with a faster and smoother resolution for any incidents you may have in the future and thank you for your feedback and continued business! :)

The claims process took longer than i…
The claims process took longer than i thought it would. The claims team takes a whole day to reply to you even for simple questions or responses. Claims themselves can get a bit technical such as the diagnostics store having to put “accidental damage” yet they did not mention this to me when i took it to them. Paid out on the day they made the decision.

Possibly Giving them another chance
Updated review (Dec 2nd 2021)
I’m only editing this review because as a business owner I can appreciate when a company cares about their reputation and goes out of their way to fix issues that come up!! When this incident happened I immediately jumped online and started looking at reviews and seen others similar to my experience, that really ticked me off and my review was made there after! What I forgot to mention in my review was that there was a 30 day waiting period for coverage on theft (even tho I feel as though that was not communicated with me from the beginning or I somehow missed what hundreds of others will also miss in the sign up process, I’ve been assured that it’s being fixed) which SUCKS because you have absolutely ZERO control on when a criminal will come around (in my case I live downtown and over 130 cars were hit that night, 9 total in my underground garage, I had JUST signed up a week or so prior and kept putting off the hassle of insuring all my items and updating the portal with all the info, so the only thing I had insured during the sign up process was my MacBook because it was next to me and convenient. I played the “I’ll just do it later” game and it blew up in my face!) in my case the criminal came around, did over $4000 in damages (better updates after my initial review) I had to replace my leather seats that got cup up, my window brackets, the professional special UV ceramic tints (my child has seizures so is required to have them) the double sided window it self ($1600 just for that) the side panels (because they tried getting in with a tool from the side and completely destroyed my panels) IT WAS A MESS, I then had to pay a professional $250 to come clean the mess up and make the car safe for me and my kids glass free…. And this is NOT including everything they got from my car, I’m a full time traveler with residence in Wisconsin so I’m the “ignorant one” that leaves things in the car… a extra iPhone for traveling, my Apple Watch so it can charge for me the next day, my school & business stuff (Mac book, I pad, ton of business plans and layouts for my clients) THIS WAS JUST A MESS PERIOD!!
I think in the heat of the moment my mind was telling me “excuse me, I’ve just taken over $5000 (before I even knew the cost of damages) in losses on a ton of stuff I didn’t get around to insuring and you won’t cover a little cheap MacBook 😏🙄 my MacBook was returned from a pawnshop undamaged so I was excited for that, the spare $200 I keep in the car for emergencies (for two years of traveling I was collecting those dollar coins, THAT HURT 😭😭 I Had about $75/$80 worth in the car) I’ll never get back, My backup spare for emergency iPhone XsMax they think is in a phone kiosk (awaiting update), My prescription coach sunglasses, my daughters diamond earrings (she took of at the ocean two weeks prior and forgot them in the car) my Apple Watch ALL GONE! None of it was insured with this company or another…. Definitely a life lesson to me that I apparently needed without even knowing I needed 😞
I learned from this situation to read all the Q&As prior because I can’t recall it anywhere on the sign up pages that coverage doesn’t start till after 30 days
I also learned to not be lazy and get things done when it comes to insuring items weather I like it or not 😭
I’m not sure how good this company is as I have zero experience with them paying out a claim but I will say they have done a lot to make up for it and they CARE HARD CORE about their reputation and that makes me believe they are a company that is good….
When I get back from vacation I will decide weather or not I want to give them another chance
In the meantime if you’re looking for an insurance company that actually cares about what their customers say in their reviews this is the company for you!! For that reason I’ve decided to change my review and give them a 3 star instead of a 1 even tho I’m not currently with them as a customer! If I decide to pick them up again I will update in a few months!
Also note from my original comment: The reason I felt as though they were doing everything to deny the claim and jump me through hoops, is because instead of just telling me that it was not covered, I was asked for all kinds of receipts, proof of everything, police reports, proof of ownership (which I sent in), so I spent hours with Apple, a good 2 Hours I was looking through past bank statements as this was purchased with two different cards months prior, just so much. A MESS
Original comment: DONT DO IT!!!! THEY DID EVERYTHING TO NOT PAY THE CLAIM I HAD ON MY COMPUTER!! Had police reports, $1600 in damage was done when my car was burglarized, I sent in proof of everything even video footage…. The claim was for such a small amount in compared to what I lost!!! They dragged me through so many hoops then refused to pay finding any reason not to!!! THIS COMPANY IS A SCAM DO NOT DO IT!!!!
