German with LauraReviews of germanwithlaura.com

If I could give 6 stars I would. I had been using Duolingo for 4 months. I felt like I was making progress with vocabulary, but I really didn't understand why sentences were structured the way they were. (And don't get me started on noun gender and why the gender seemed to change randomly. And words that had different endings depending on the sentence.) I tried Laura's free course and was hooked. Her teaching method was perfect for me and she made things so EASY! You will not come out of the class with perfect grammar skills. You will, however, have all the skills required to finally figure it out as you go. I still refer to notes and charts from the class a year later. She is an amazing teacher! FYI..This is not a German vocabulary/speaking class. This class is to learn-IN ENGLISH-the foundations of German grammar. You then take those skills with you when you use the language learning methods of your choice. You do not really need to know any German when starting this class because it is not a vocabulary class. You will be learning why German Grammar is the way that it is, and how it works so you can begin your language journey. This class would also work for more advanced speakers as a way to refresh your sentence structure and grammar skills.

This class offers some very valuable information which to my knowledge is not found elsewhere. I have taken several German language classes. Most would teach some basics and then let the student determine how to learn the information and apply it. This class offers outlines of how to learn the information and exactly how to use the information.

Simply I can say Laura is one of a kind. The way she teaches the material is very sophisticated and She helps you dive deep down into the bottom of the important Concepts. Now, I wont ever forget the Case system in german. She absolutely teaches you how to fish rather than just simply give you the fish. She gives you bird-eye view on German Language which gives you a lot of advantage when you start going to more advanced levels. She puts you on the right track where you could easily build upon the ideas and improve your German. If you are not that kind of people who is very good at memorizing or just like me you are some one who cannot memorize or easily forget if you haven’t understood the material, I definitely recommend you to give a try with Laura. One of the best.

When I started learning German I found it to be very frustrating because the structure is so different. All of the other German courses are great but there is a certain sequence that will make learning much easier. Michel Thomas is very good for sentence structure as well as Laura's German. I think it is best to understand German grammar and it is super important to understand the basic rules and differences of the languages. German with Laura is by far the best point to start learning German and done concurrently with Michel Thomas. This experience can be a lot of fun and it is important that you try to do a little German everyday and slowly you will inculcate this language. Be patient, persistent and enjoy. Laura is "GREAT"! I am only 79 in September but still learning!

I am absolutely LOVING Laura’s Foundations course. It is brilliantly put together in a hierarchical, building-blocks way that is SO clear, so logical, so easy to absorb without memorization. Everything Laura says about the traditional way German is taught is true. The student is expected to memorize the articles to hundreds of words and plug in declensions with no clue as to which one. It’s impossible. Wish I'd found Laura’s courses five years ago. I know now that learning in a way that doesn’t form a pattern isn’t learning at all. It’s all just random bits and pieces--too disjointed to hang onto for very long. Laura’s course brings clarity and sense—no memorization, just understanding. You will NOT waste your time or money on this course. You WILL have a clear understanding of German foundations. I'm spending way too much time on German because I am enjoying it so thoroughly. It's my little secret pleasure during the day! I am so eager to hear what I’m going to learn next. Thank you for your course, Laura. It is a thing of true beauty. An astonishing piece of scholarship and masterful teaching. Can’t wait for the next one!!

I find the lessons easy to follow and I get answers to my questions in a timely manner. This course is covering information I didn't have explained in my Babble course. I find that the two work well for me. Looking forward to seeing what the next course has to offer.

I have struggled with German for a year despite the best efforts of a home tutor. Laura Bennett's German Course starts by focussing on two essentials - word order and the four genders (join up to learn about the 4th gender!). She advises against rote learning, encouraging instead learning by assimilation. Similarly, vocabulary can wait till the structures are in place. Laura's approach is fresh, vibrant and interesting. There is a quiz at the end of each video. Highly recommended.

If you really want to learn German this is the course you want to take. Learning German grammar first is the key to being a fluent speaker. This course teaches you that so when learning new words you already know how to put them in complete sentences. This is the key to success. Thanks Laura
