While visiting my mother in independence I was able to get a two week pass with Genesis Health Clubs in Independence MO.
Wow this gym blew me away, it was a nice size with an open turf where I could do my agility exercises, dynamic stretching and farmer carries....they even had a sled.
I've lived in nyc for 22 years and have been a trainer in nyc for 21 years. I've been in some of the nicest gyms and have worked in some of the nicest gyms in New York and the Genesis Health Club stands amongst some of the best ones I've seen in all my travels.
The staff is warm and friendly and willing to help.
Happy Gym Goer,

I will be back!

Leavenworth Genesis Difunctionally Bad to larger Genesis Group
Signed up for the one in Leavenworth, Kansas. Equipment constantly broken. Urinals running over. Locker room filthy. Management Toxic. Sauna always broken, even when you called and ask if it was working, you'd get there and it wasn't. Potholes in parking lot require re-alignment of your car. Very poor and/or unprofessional business practices. Called the regional management, and they were worse.

⭐️ 1 STAR
⭐️ 1 STAR — PLEASE READ BEFORE JOINING GENESIS HEALTH CLUB OVERLAND PARK
I am extremely disappointed with the way Genesis Health Club Overland Park has handled my membership. After everything that has happened, I feel other people need to know what my experience has been.
Right before Mother’s Day, I broke my arm and had to undergo serious surgery. Because of my injury, I was unable to work and could not use the gym. I immediately contacted Genesis and explained my situation and asked if my membership could be paused while I recovered.
I was told that it could not be paused.
The charges continued.
I sent emails, made phone calls, and eventually went to the club in person because I was trying to get this resolved. I spoke directly with the manager and explained that I had broken my arm, had surgery, could not work, could not use the gym, and could no longer afford the membership.
I asked again for the membership to be paused.
I was told it would be paused.
Then I was charged again the following month.
I contacted them again and went back to the club. The front desk looked at my account and told me that the membership had never actually been paused.
I then spoke with the manager again and explained what had happened. I was told it would be paused immediately, and I was offered a free month.
However, I was not clearly informed that I would still be charged more than $30 per month simply for having the membership paused. Those charges continued.
Then another charge of approximately $50 appeared, without what I consider adequate notification or explanation.
My husband and I went back to the club because we were extremely frustrated. We explained that we had been trying repeatedly to resolve this situation.
We were then told that the membership would be canceled and that my surgery records, documentation of my broken arm, and other information would be sent to corporate. We were told they would try to have the approximately $200 cancellation fee removed because of my circumstances.
I provided the documentation as requested.
And then TODAY, Genesis charged me another $232.81 for the full membership charge.
After everything I have been through trying to resolve this, I am extremely upset.
I have repeatedly contacted this club. I have sent emails. I have made phone calls. I have gone there in person multiple times. I have spoken with management. I explained my injury and financial situation. I provided documentation of my surgery. I followed the instructions I was given.
And I am STILL being charged.
Today my husband went back to the club to try to speak with management again. He was told that the manager was not there. My husband could see the manager in his office and pointed this out. He was then told that the manager was leaving soon.
This entire situation has been incredibly stressful.
I understand that gyms have contracts, policies, freeze fees, and cancellation fees. What I don’t understand is how a customer can repeatedly communicate with a business, be told that an account has been paused or will be canceled, provide medical documentation as requested, and still continue receiving charges.
This all started because I suffered a serious injury, had surgery, could not work, and could not use the gym. The last thing I needed during my recovery was months of stress trying to get a membership handled properly.
Genesis may have nice facilities and plenty of equipment, but customer service and communication matter. Following through on what you tell a customer matters.
My experience with this location has been extremely disappointing.
If you are considering joining Genesis, please carefully read and understand the freeze and cancellation policies before signing up. Keep records of every email, phone call, conversation, and charge.
I wish I had paid much more attention to the reviews before joining.
Based on my experience, I would not recommend this location.

Charged $174.95 for a contract I never signed
My husband went to the Leavenworth location to remove himself from our family membership for a military transfer. He was told he just needed to sign paperwork for his removal — instead, staff had him sign a brand new contract in my name, raising my dues from $109.75 to $158.55/month plus a $21.87 fee, totaling a $174.95 charge.
The club manager admitted this was a billing error within 24 hours and promised I wouldn’t be charged. Genesis charged me anyway. Their district manager confirmed the error weeks ago and said a refund was being processed — I’m still waiting, with no refund and no written update.

Don't waste your money and skip Genesis
Years of nonstop construction at the Hickman Genesis location, a group fitness room that’s dangerously hot, and staff issues that never get addressed. Cancelation of a favorite class and instructor, which is the only resson i went there through the mess. Management shows zero concern for member safety or satisfaction.Trying to cancel was a pain intentionally difficult and completely inappropriate.Genesis Health Clubs has become a case study in how not to operate a gym. Don't waste your money.

beware terms and conditions
they have no interest in customer satisfaction. customer online portal does not allow membership suspension or cancellation. it does allow to cancel a paid for trainer session but they do not tell the gym. when you suspend membership in person and confirm they ignore and charge full membership and when you text them they blank you. they up sell aggressively completely unsuitable training packages

Poor condition
It has been more than a year that they have not fixed their Ac and heat unit. Extremely hot during summer and cold in winter time. Unbelievable that they are not willing to fix the problem.
