Julie Lobacz is terrific. She kept me informed for well over a year on what new programs were available. And when one finally met my criteria she walked me through all the different parts of the procedure. I don't just think of her as my mortgage person, she's also become a friend. I was misled into thinking that I could get a discount on upfront charges without any specified initial loan commitment. In actuality, a large loan commitment at the outset was required to obtain the terms upon which we had lengthy and multiple discussions. Only at the end of this process, through my own persistence, was I able to learn the truth. At best, this operation presupposes too much knowledge on the part of the borrower. More likely, it attempts to exploit the lack of transparency to induce a deal that the borrower does not fully understand until it becomes very costly to unwind the process. This is a major reason reverse mortgages lenders have earned a bad reputation.

Working with this bank was an absolute waste of time. Documents lost, requested three and four times over, wrong documents sent for employment verification, personal and financial information exposed to unauthorized individuals, unreasonable requests (e.g. to prove disability for the last three years, when it had started only a year ago), just to name a few. Our loan underwriter, Shelby Stover, was nothing but a major frustration. She never had any idea what the documents were about, no matter how many times I tried to explain. Stay away from this bank. After 6 months of wasted time, and being told three times we were "about to close" I waved goodbye and went to a different bank.
