I would not have solved a family mystery if it wasn't for FTDNA and the Big-Y test.

I used this company for determining my Y chromosome haplogroup and to see whether there were others out there with a close match to me, especially as I have a rare surname. I got precisely what I asked for and with the added bonus of discovering other, long way back, cousins who shared my surname. I believe that this company is the best on the market for this.

Over the last 20 years, I've tested with at least 7 or 8 DNA companies, 2 or 3 which do not exist anymore. FTDNA is the most advanced of these, bar none. The only company I am aware of that tests yDNA, mtDNA and Autosomal DNA. I have had several of my close and remote family members tested as well. No company is perfect, but after 15 years with FTDNA, I have no complaints. I trust them with my data - more than any other company. DNA testing is a developing science. If they (FTDNA) come out with new tests, I will be sure to have those done as well.

I have been a customer a family tree DNA for well over a decade. Their product is good and the results are wonderful. I have no complaints from the prior owner Mr Greenspan, however the company he has sold out to now is not the greatest. I don't like the merge with myheritage they are one of the worst sites out there for a family tree. For years all we've asked for is a place on our family tree DNA account to add a link to your online tree wherever you would like it to be. This would require no resources on the part of family tree DNA whatsoever just a simple box for someone to enter a link. And yet you're forced to use a crappy company's family tree! Hopefully the myheritage merge goes away and a link box is added sometime in the near future.

I've done mtDNA, BIG-Y and transferred atDNA for myself and others in my family. The chromosome browser is great. And the various groups you can join, help you discuss results with others.
