Company is a FRAUD, do NOT waste your time, money or effort. Basically - paid for product, company does not deliver product but refuses to refund and refuses to respond to customer contact = FRAUD. I ordered a test 8 months ago, the results were delayed no less than 8 times during that period without explanation. When I asked for a refund they refused, then offered to send a new sample kit, which I agreed to. The kit was never sent, and it has now been 2 months without contact from them. I have emailed 3 times and no response, they have closed down their customer support email and now ask you to use a 'contact us' form - just reducing ways that their many cheated customers can get in touch with them.

Family tree DNA are still using the old method of DNA analysis but ok a lot of people find that fins, the worse bits are the customer service is a big fat zero, do not reply to messages about issues on site and the family tree isa big minus due to the fact it cannot find relatives or even links to your family tree, i have over 16000 people on my tree and it can't cope, its links are not working a t sometimes

There are a number of companies in the market place offering you "the moon" in terms of your cousins and so on. Take great care in selecting the company you choose. Do not merely believe what you are hoping the advertisements are offering - the "spin-doctors" collect great fees for making a product sound better than it actually is. FamilyTreeDNA is a Houston, Texas, US based firm and having experienced others, this is the firm of my choice. Why? FamilyTreeDNA offers all the tests to a far greater (and deeper degree) that none of the other firms are offering (YDNA, mtDNA and the autosomal test) and all from the one sample (two cheek swabs) provided. It also offers dedicated projects with attendant voluntary and equally dedicated administrators looking after said project (these include Surnames, geographical or Haplogroup which are all free to join). Because the data base holds member results from all over the globe, many a tester is astonished to learn they have family in an unexpected country! One of the special aspects is that the fee is a "one-time" fee for a specifically wanted test. No annual subs; matches are available (and are notified to the tester and are contactable at the tester's decision via their own email system; privacy is at the tester's choice (you decide who can see what); the tester's DNA results are 100% theirs to be stored or destroyed; so many pluses on so many levels. Superlatives run out, but FamilytreeDNA is the firm to choose for the serious genealogist.

I have predominately British ancestry and have only found one confirmed relative through FTDNA, as the sample has a heavy US bias. So if you are looking for relatives, clues on ancestry, the test is not that useful unless you have US ancestry. However, the data on origins and my y-DNA results were quite useful. The site also has a lot of very detailed data and has the largest sample.

I don't know what's going on with this company and their site but the DNA tests they offer seem pretty outdated. There Y-Chrom and Mito-DNA test are based on some OLD technology. I think they might be focusing more on the medical market but they were no help with ancestry.
