Refused refund for a battery swelling safety hazard
I really wanted to love Even Realities because I genuinely think the concept behind the G1 is excellent. Unfortunately, my experience with the hardware and after-sales support has left me unable to recommend them. I purchased a pair of G1 prescription smart glasses in February 2025 and used them as my primary everyday glasses. After about a year, the adhesive holding the rear battery housing began to fail. Eventually, the plastic shell completely detached, exposing the internal components. After reviewing the photos I sent, Even Realities told me that their technical team believed the issue was "most likely caused by battery swelling". Naturally, I became concerned and asked whether it was still safe to continue wearing and charging glasses that sit directly against my temples and eyes. Their response was that, although they had not confirmed an immediate safety risk, they "recommended that I avoid wearing or charging the glasses as a precaution" At that point, I no longer had a safe pair of prescription glasses to rely on. I tried very hard to work with support to find a reasonable solution. Over the course of several weeks I considered repairs, advance replacements, a discounted G2, and multiple other compromises. I wasn't demanding a free upgrade from the beginning, I only requested a refund after it became clear that: My original G1 B frame was no longer available for replacement. I had been advised not to wear or charge my existing glasses. I was unable to send my glasses for repair because they are my prescription glasses and I need them to see. The only remaining option was to spend hundreds of dollars on another pair after losing confidence in the product. Support staff were consistently polite and professional, and I genuinely appreciate their efforts to advocate on my behalf. Unfortunately, management ultimately declined to provide an equivalent replacement, a meaningful upgrade path, or a refund, stating that the product was outside the standard return policy despite the unusual circumstances. I understand companies have policies, but I also believe exceptional situations sometimes require exceptions. When a wearable product develops what the manufacturer believes is battery swelling and the customer is advised not to use it, I expected a stronger commitment to standing behind the product. I hope Even Realities improves both the long-term durability of its products and its handling of cases like mine, because I still believe the idea behind the product is outstanding.
