I spent close to $5,000 at RONA…
I spent close to $5,000 at RONA purchasing two EGO 2-stage snowblowers and a total of eight 10Ah batteries. Like any responsible buyer, I registered everything with EGO Power+ using the receipts provided, and my warranty was confirmed for 5 years. At the time, I had zero reason to question anything. EGO reviewed my documentation, approved it, and confirmed my warranty. From a customer standpoint, that should have been the end of it. Fast forward two years — two of the batteries have failed, and EGO has already confirmed they are defective. These batteries cost around $650 each, so this is not a minor issue. Here’s the real problem: EGO is now refusing to honor the warranty unless I provide an itemized receipt — despite the fact that they already reviewed and approved my proof of purchase at the time of registration. Let’s be clear: If there was an issue with my receipt, that should have been flagged when I registered the products — not two years later when I actually need support. Instead, EGO is shifting the responsibility back onto the customer and hiding behind a technicality they themselves overlooked. I’ve made every effort to retrieve an itemized receipt from RONA, including over 20 calls and email threads with both the Oakville store and head office — with no success. But at the end of the day, that should not excuse EGO from standing behind a warranty they already validated. Result: EGO has confirmed the product is defective, confirmed the warranty at registration, and is still refusing to honor it. No alternatives. No escalation. No accountability. I’ve simply been told the issue “is not in EGO’s hands,” which makes no sense considering this is their warranty and their product. This is where EGO completely fails. A warranty is only as good as the company backing it — and in this case, EGO approved my claim upfront, waited until there was an actual issue, and then changed the rules. As a customer, I did everything right. EGO did not. If this is how warranty claims are handled, I would strongly reconsider investing in EGO products — because when something goes wrong, you may be left covering the cost yourself, even when you followed their process exactly.
