Shipping a gallon of liquid hundreds of miles is really expensive
The no-VOC stain varnish is great. But I wish the product were available in a local store. (I live in Midtown Manhattan -- if we don't have something locally, nobody does.) Shipping from several states away is very expensive. There are lots of reasons to go no-VOC, but if "being green" is one of them, the carbon footprint of shipping a gallon of liquid hundreds of miles wipes out that "greenness."

Good Morning Rob, I appreciate your concern for the environment, it is certainly one that we share. With regard to the distance that a product travels before reaching a customer, that is always more complicated than just the final stretch. Traditional paint, in the US, is typically manufactured in large factories in old industrial areas of the country. Raw materials are sourced from around the world, normally on the basis of the most cost effective supplier, and the finished products are sent to thousands of retail locations, to be picked up by consumers. It might be a short distance for a customer to collect a gallon of paint from a local store but, without doubt, its contents are extremely well traveled.
