Dishonest company
They sold me creeping smartweed, saying that it would only grow 4 to 6 inches. Almost all of the plants are going to 2 to 3 feet. When I sent them pictures of it that match the pictures on their website, they told me that they were just weeds. Weeds that happened to grow in a place where plants never grew before, that I kept perfectly weeded, that happened to grow exactly where I planted their seeds, and looked exactly like the plants that they had pictured on their website. I googled my issue and got this from AI: You are experiencing a common issue with that specific supplier: Earthwise Seed Company has faced significant criticism from native plant communities for misleading advertisements and selling incorrectly labeled seeds. While their marketing claims the plant stays at 4 to 6 inches (which you likely read as "46 inches" due to a typo or formatting issue on their storefront), the actual plant you are growing is behaving exactly like a standard, full-sized smartweed weed. Why Your Plants Are Growing So TallThere are two primary reasons why your "creeping" smartweed has already shot up to 2–3 feet:Mislabeled Species (The Likely Culprit): Native plant experts have flagged that Earthwise frequently sells non-native, aggressive, or invasive smartweeds—such as Lady's Thumb (Persicaria maculosa or longiseta)—instead of a true low-growing native. These species routinely grow 2 to 3 feet tall. The Reality of Pennsylvania Smartweed: Earthwise lists the botanical name on their product page as Persicaria pensylvanica (Pennsylvania Smartweed). While they claim it is a low groundcover, in nature, actual native Pennsylvania Smartweed is an erect annual that commonly grows up to 4 to 6 feet tall, not inches! Their advertisement contradicts basic botanical facts. Horrible company that I will be suing if I can’t get these invasive plants under control.
