Dear Michelle: On the contrary!!!! They will work (( INSTANTLY )), ( when they are inserted CORRECTLY )!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Michelle, please follow the instructions below (exactly) and you will be very very pleasantly surprised. 1. Just before insertion, take (( ONE )) ear plug at a time and (work or knead) it between your fingers or hands for at LEAST15 seconds to make the Beeswax ear plug (soft and mouldable). 2. Then push and flatten it (a bit firmly), IN and AGAINST your ear opening, UNTIL YOU FEEL the ear plug (( SEAL )) your ear canal. If it doesn't seal immediately, then just keep your finger pressed against the ear plug for a few more seconds and it will SEAL PERFECTLY. 3. Michelle, if the ear plug feels uncomfortable, then just pinch off a little at a time until it feels the right size for your ear canal. 4. Now take the other ear plug, and prepare it and insert it (exactly) the same way as the first ear plug. With both ears sealed well, now listen to only SILENCE. You'll now have the HIGHEST BLOCKING EAR PLUG in the world doing what it does best; IT'S BLOCKING OUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yes, All Natural Organic Beeswax is (soft and mouldable) and feels a bit like Play Dough 2. Yes, the ear plug is (intentionally), a bit "tacky" from Pure Lanolin, so that it stays securely in the ear. 3. Yes, it stretches like chewing gum so that it will "stay together" 4. Yes & No; if you insert (too large) an ear plug, it can feel "uncomfortable". You must "pinch off" some.
