DO NOT BUY!
The house we purchased was built with multiple severe defects. From day one, we've been dealing with a shower leak that led to a mold infestation. Two years later, this initial defect is still not fixed. We haven't been able to use our master bathroom for over a year and are living with a mold hazard. We reported the issue to the Warranty Director, Robert Draper, but for two years and two months, the mold hazard affecting our health has been neglected without resolution. There's been no progress or hope. DO NOT BUY!

Avoid DR Horton at all costs!
A large group of my family members sold many acres to DR Horton just a couple of years ago. I would strongly advise anyone who cares about their family legacy to steer clear of this company. Why? We were told that they would not only put our family name in the property name (it's spelled incorrectly and now does not represent the family at all) but that they would also include our family members' first names for the streets. (Our family goes back over 100 years in that area so it was just a tiny bit important to us.) Two of us from the family sent emails with suggestions to our main contact, Robert Stuart (Raleigh South office). Apparently, as I'm learning two years later, you can't use first names (which they knew)...yet they gathered and submitted first names, anyway, instead of coming back to us to get suggestions so that it could be submitted properly. I've seen the emails between Jonathan Cooper (Raleigh South) and Sharon Bott (Raleigh North) about names, but at no point did either of them contact us for alternates. (Sharon, whom I called and left a VM for recently but never got a return call from, had our contact information and could have easily emailed us.) Once we closed on the property, Robert decided to ignore all of our future calls and emails. Just recently, the family learned that road names were chosen without our input and everyone mentioned in this review (plus the board of directors...who never replied to us, by the way...never stepped in to insist that this situation be handled correctly) was contacted about it in a desperate effort to make corrections. (The project has just begun...there is plenty of time to fix this.) Instead of receiving assistance, the family was basically told 'oh we tried' (sure...if you call submitting names which they knew would not be approved trying) and 'we're moving forward'...basically telling us to get lost which is unbelievably disrespectful. Also, we were emailed documents that sparked important questions that Jonathan refused to answer. Benjamin Lunnun, VP of the Central Carolina division was also included in these recent emails and also never replied to us...never tried to make any effort to step up and make this situation right. Just a side note to the Raleigh North location...I tried calling many times over the last few months about this situation and always ended up at 'corporate' (if that's really where this employee was). I gave her my contact information numerous times to be passed along for someone to call me back and no one ever did. Many reviews speak to the lack of quality in construction...I cannot comment on that...but I CAN comment on the lack of quality as far as employees owning up to mistakes and fixing them...or refusing to try to fix them in my family's case. There are other builders that will try a lot harder to respect your family's name and your requests. It's traumatic enough to lose family land that is so important, but to be treated the way our family has been treated after BEGGING them to correct their errors is just salt in a wound. And sadly, with the amount of complaints that are out there about this company from questionable build practices to class action lawsuits to treating their own employees atrociously and more, this kind of nonsense must just be standard operating procedure for them. Don't sell them your precious family land.

Roof shingles blowing off because not installed properly. They did not remove the protective shipping covering on the sticky sealant that is on the front edge of the shingles to keep them from lifting up .

Unethical greedy builders
I am writing this review to share my negative experience with DR Horton. As a disabled veteran and former police officer, I was eager to move my family from the city to a quieter, safer suburban area. Now with the flexibility to relocate, I had been exploring options and had taken a particular interest in the Cider Grove community. I currently own a home, and my lender requires that I sell this property before closing on a new one. Over the course of several months, I monitored a specific home in Cider Grove as its price gradually decreased, eventually bringing it within my budget.
After visiting the home twice, my family and I decided to move forward. We were assured by the sales representative that if we emailed our picture IDs, the property would be taken off the market and no further showings would occur. The following day, we signed the contract (which contained the sell-to-buy contingency) and paid a $5,000 earnest money deposit. Additionally, I was told I would receive a $1,000 discount for being a veteran, part of DR Horton’s “Hometown Heroes” program.
I promptly took action to list my current home, confident it would sell quickly given its desirable location and recent upgrades.
However, just four days later—one day before my home was scheduled to be listed—I received an unexpected call from my realtor. I was informed that another offer had been made on the property I was purchasing. This offer was not contingent on selling an existing home, and DR Horton was prepared to accept it unless I could match those terms. I was both shocked and confused, as I had been assured there would be no further showings, and my contract had already been signed with the earnest money paid.
Due to financial constraints, I am unable to purchase a new home without first selling my current property. Despite this, DR Horton chose to go with the other buyer, disregarding the commitments made to me. This experience has led me to believe that DR Horton is more focused on making quick sales than honoring agreements with prospective buyers.
In my opinion, DR Horton’s actions were driven by greed and a lack of ethics. As a result, I will not be doing business with them in the future, nor will I recommend them to anyone I know.
It seems that “America’s Builder” is unwilling to honor its commitments or show respect to those who have served.

DO NOT BUY DR HORTON
RUN. DO NOT BUY DR Horton home. We have had multiple issues with our new construction home over the 3 years we’ve lived in it, including black mold, and they refuse to do anything, citing “homeowner management.” This is the absolute WORST home we have ever owned. This is our 3rd new construction that we’ve lived in for reference. Construction was done fast and cheap. Finishes are garbage. This was the biggest regret I’ve ever had. When we did our blue tape walk, the kitchen pulls on the cabinets were misaligned and crooked. I marked that as needing to be repaired. Not sure what they did, but they attempted to straighten them out but they are still crooked. My 11 year old could have done a better job. It looked like we needed new cabinet faces to truly fix the issue, but of course we didn’t get that. All the doors in the house have damage. That was also marked on the walk, all they did was a terrible putty patch job and painted over it. Our cold storage room in the basement has had mold since a month after we moved in. It’s humid in there like the southern Caribbean in hurricane season. We have a dehumidifier running 24/7. We were told that room is not a sealed room and could potentially have water in it. I can’t leave the door open because of mold and health. They refuse to do anything about. For a $700k home, we have been treated like garbage, lied to, and given a product that’s not worth $250k. You live and learn, I guess. So buy beware, NEVER, EVER purchase a DR Horton home. Worst builder in America.

Run away don't walk.
I don't know where to begin. I will say I only give them one star because I can't give them zero. We have been in our home since July 3rd. It has been nothing but a shift show.. the hoa is ridiculous, the build quality of the house is sub par, the appliances are low quality to where we bought new dishwasher and microwave. The faucets are of the lowest quality. The kicker is the ac is not in my opinion sized correctly for the house, and we have had one company out 7 times and a second company out once and it still does not work. I am in the process of finding a lawyer to find out if I can get my money back out of the house and get the he'll away from these people. I think know I would have been better buying a tent.
