Cost of postage & packing is ridiculous for a couple of small items

Hi Linda - since posting our original response I have had a chance to look at your order as I wanted to ensure that our postal rates were correct. You ordered a repair kit and the cost of postage on this item is £4.50 inc VAT. Because of the size and weight, this has to be sent as a Small Package via the Royal Mail (1st class). The cost of this service via Royal Mail is £3.95 + VAT ( 20% VAT has to be applied as this is deemed as a service, it's HMRC rules) = £4.74. We then have to provide packaging as well so our postage charge does not actually cover the cost of posting the item. We are sorry that you consider our postage rates to be high - our postage costs are calculated by size and weight and are governed by the Royal Mail - HMRC dictate that we have to charge VAT on postage as it is a secondary service so 20% of the charge is VAT. Most items are sent in a large letterbox or recycled mailing bag which also incurs a cost as we are trying to move over to greener packaging. We have not increased our rates for 3 years despite recent increases from the post office. We also offer referral programs where we send batteries FOC as a thank you and some customers never pay for additional batteries or collar straps.
