I love my host Marc and am comfortable with him watching my dog. My only reason for 4 stars is that DogVacay punishes planning - I know months ahead that I want to make a reservation, but if I book - they take the money at the date of booking and have free use of it for months. If I wait until the last minute - my money is mine. The host doesn't get paid until AFTER the completion --- so DogVacay is screwing me and the host.

I found a wonderful dog sitter for a fearful dog through PetVacay. It took a bit of calling around, but the app was a great resource for leads. The message function is bulky enough that the sitters switched to email. It's nice to have coupon offers now and again.

We boarded our three year old Cairn Terrier/Shih Tzu mix with Carlie in Jacksonville for four days and three nites. Carlie and her family members took excellent care of our little dog. We are grateful. Odds are we won't be back that way with the dog anytime soon. But if we go anywhere near there, Carlie will be our choice again. She's a caring pet lover.

While we have found terrific "hosts", not surprisingly,they are also popular with many other people. At times this can result in too many dogs at once staying with a "host" and ours comes home exhausted. This is O.K. if he's just staying a couple of days, but when we go on longer vacations, it can be a lot for him, and he is only two ! We have therefore tended to try to have him stay with someone who only takes a single "guest" when we go away for more than just a long weekend, and there aren't too many hosts who only take one "guest".

DogVacay is a nice option for my dog to be in a pack environment, instead of a cold and isolated kennel. My doggie gets her own vacation, while we take ours!

DogVacay makes it easy to post your listing and become available to the community. I got bookings immediately. However, there are a couple of snags I would like to see worked on: 1) Dog sitters are not vetted before posting their info on site. You have to rely on the reviews. 2) Company charges $5 per check payment. The 15% charge should cover that. Also, if a client adds a day on to a reservation, that is treated as 2 bookings - and you are charged $5 for each check/booking. 3) Changing your availability is still a little cumbersome. I would like to be able to change the number of dogs I'll take on individual days.

This diverse array of choices for sending the message to potential customers through this medium has worked wonderfully for me thus far. The calendar setup is somewhat confusing, as it shows a dog booked the day they are scheduled to go home, even if they leave first thing in the morning, and other potential guests cannot sign up for a stay until the following day if you are booked out, which has caused some interference, but nothing major, in the past.
