I'm 62 years old and have been putting off getting hearing aides for years. Besides normal age-related hearing loss, I have tinnitus (ringing) from playing in a band in my 20's and working in a loud computer room in my 30's. I got a hearing test and hearing aid consult from my local health provider (UMass medical) which was covered by insurance, but was shocked at the cost of a pair of hearing aides that weren't covered by insurance. I shopped for more affordable options online and saved about 40% with Direct Hearing. Hearing aids have made a huge difference for me, my wife, family, and friends - especially when watching TV and in noisy restaurants. They're very small over ear devices that match my hair color so they're hard to notice. I'm a huge fan of blue tooth connectivity. It's great for listening to podcasts or music when hiking or doing yard work and for streaming a tv show or a movie after my wife has gone to sleep at night. I use noise cancelling headphone when riding a lawn tractor or a weed eater. I was pleasantly surprised that the noise cancelling headphones work over top of my hearing aids without feedback. The Signia hearing aides that I got from Direct Hearing have tinnitus therapy which is training my brain not to pay attention to the ringing. It works by playing a customized "yellow noise" sound that's tuned to the frequency of my ringing. It sounds a bit like the white noise when you're between channels on a TV. I can turn it up, down, or off with a phone app. If I forget to wear my hearing aids for a day, then the ringing becomes noticeably annoying again - so it seems to be working. Eric@Direct Hearing was extremely helpful throughout the learning, buying, and tuning process. More recently, I was thrilled with a customer support call that helped me reset some phone app settings to resolve a blue tooth streaming problem. Speaking of customer support, it should be noted that I'm a recently retired information technology professional that's comfortable with the Direct Hearing "direct-to-consumer" support model. If you're not comfortable downloading apps on a phone and following directions during a phone call with a friendly support rep, then you might want to consider a local provider that you can drive to and deal with in person. That said, IMO it's hard to justify the huge markups that local providers are charging for the exact same technology with a tuning and training session and in-person support if needed later.

I replaced a lost Sonic hearing aid by purchasing one online from Digitalhearing.com. Their pricing was very reasonable compared with my audiologist. The service was excellent and very fast. They also scheduled an assessment via cell phone with a specialist, shortly after my new one arrived, to make sure both hearing aids were working well and synced with my iPhone. Very happy with the service.

I always imagine the best possible scenario and am usually disappointed, but so far, I can't imagine a better experience than I've had with Direct Hearing. Extremely clear and responsive to every e-mail and Will was so excellent at being clear and answering all my questions thoroughly. Very satisfied.
