Takes your money even if you don't place the order
I am disabled and have no income but wanted to buy some art supplies with what little tax refund I had received. I have never purchased from DickBlick.com before and I've spent a lot of time trying to figure out what I wanted to buy, even unto the last minute. Of course I always consider holding off on ordering and holding onto my money because, again, disabled, no income, etc. I filled out my info on the order pages and as I was reading through the confirmation page before submitting the order (and debating on whether to actually order, change something, or wait), my phone vibrates and a text message tells me that $XX.XX amount of money has been removed from my debit card. The exact amount of the DickBlick.com order on my screen. Apparently they take your money even if you don't actually place the order. Because I didn't (at first). I touched NOTHING on the screen. As I said above, I was reading through the confirmation page BEFORE the submitting of the order, y'know, where you make sure your order and information is correct first. I also didn't even receive an order confirmation email until I actually hit the submit order button as well. My thoughts were "Well feck, they've already taken my money WITHOUT ME ACTUALLY SUBMITTING AN ORDER, I better actually submit the order or I probably won't get anything." Then I instantly received the order confirmation email. From what I've been reading, cancelling the order is a horrendous hassle, and I'm certainly not returning and paying for that out of my own pocket. Now while I'm still on the fence about whether I should order or hold off, I would eventually have put an order of some kind in. BUT DON'T TAKE MY MONEY UNTIL I AGREE TO GIVE IT TO YOU! This has definitely left a sour taste in my mouth and made my very first purchase with this company be my last.

April, Thank you for your review, and we are very sorry to hear that your first order with us created some confusion that left you with a bad impression. When you enter your credit or debit card information online during the checkout process, we contact your bank and request an authorization code as soon as the payment information has been submitted, which happens before the order has been completed. It’s important to note that the authorization process does not transfer any funds from your account to us at that point, it’s simply the bank’s way of confirming that the funds for your purchase exist, and places the amount of your order on reserve until the order is completed. Typically these authorizations are noted as “pending” transactions in your account. We don’t actually charge your account until your has been shipped. If the order is not completed or is canceled before the transaction has been settled, the reserved funds are simply released from hold and the pending transaction will be removed, usually within a few days. We hope this information is helpful, and if you decide that you don’t want the order after all, please let us know and we will be glad to assist with the return.
