Scammers
I don't know how an insurance company is allowed to operate like this. It's effectively a scam. Last year I was looking for a new plan, researched through Delta Dental's website to see if there was a dentist that took the insurance in this area. There was one on the map, so I signed up for a policy (for this plan you have to pay a year ahead of time). I paid, but the policy couldn't start until the following month. After that month I called the dentist to make an appointment and they told me they didn't accept that insurance. The insurance automatically assigned me to a primary care dentist an hour's drive away.. so I called them and they said they were not accepting new patients. I used the dentist finder on Delta Dental's website again, and the nearest dentist was over 1 1/2 hours drive away. I still called them, one was a Pediatric Dentist (did not take adult patients), the other was also not accepting new patients. I had to file a grievance with Delta Dental, and it took approx 2 months of appeals until I could see a dentist in my area (the appeal also had a 6-month expiration). I needed to get a tooth pulled at that time, but the dentist did not do surgical extractions.. so I had to file another grievance and wait over a month for them to respond so that I could get my tooth extracted at a local dentist. My only other option is a FIVE HOUR round trip drive to see any dentist which takes their insurance. They know their website is inaccurate because I have sent in a dozen reports on the website, and also told multiple CS reps that the website has inaccurate information. No one cares, no one is holding this company responsible for their behavior. Avoid like the plague. I will never let anyone I know use these scammers.
