Costa denied product (eyewear) defect/workmanship warranty claim
UPDATE 8/4/24: As noted below, on 7/22/24, a representative from Costa replied to this review indicating they were sorry to hear of the experience and that they would be happy to look into the situation for me. On 07/23/24, I sent the information, along with photographs of the eyewear, to the email address provided in the Costa reply. I did not receive a response of any type. On 07/31/24, I sent a second email to the address provided in the Costa reply, this time without any attachments, and as of 08/04/24 I have not received a response. Given my experience with Costa, if you choose to purchase Costa eyewear, I recommend you work with a local distributor and only purchase the specific eyewear you have been able to inspect and try on- when ordering through the Costa online purchasing program you receive eyewear that you have not inspected or tried on and based on my experience, as described herein, they do not stand behind their product and warranty and the options for a remedy are very limited. ORIGINAL REVIEW/POST: Using their (costadelmar.com) online ordering system I ordered, and subsequently received, a pair of Costa Cobrina Pro prescription sunglasses. Unfortunately the frames on the eyewear received are not straight. As such, they are uncomfortable and noticeably crooked when wearing. I have taken the eyewear to two different local Costa distributors to see if a tech might be able to straighten the frame. A representative at each distributor acknowledged the frames are not straight, and each attempted to straighten the Costa eyewear with no success. I was unable to resolve the matter using a local distributor. On 7/17/2024, I submitted a warranty claim to Costa, well within the warranty period. The claim was submitted using their online program. On 7/19/2024 I received a written reply from Costa as follows: “Upon evaluation of your claim, we have determined that the issue was not due to defective material or workmanship. Unfortunately, repair of your damaged eyewear is not an option as this model and its replacement parts are not available.” Not due to a defect or workmanship? The frames are not straight, and they were received directly from Costa as described. It is not the result of anything I did or failed to do with the eyewear - this is how they arrived from Costa. This model is no longer available? I’m not sure what to make of this statement given the previous sentence in the response by Costa indicated the claim was denied because it is not a product defect or workmanship issue. Regardless, as of 7/19/24, the Cobrina Pro eyewear remains available for purchase at costadelmar.com, and with immediate shipping. I now own a very expensive pair of Costa Cobrina Pro prescription sunglasses that sit in their case in a drawer because the frames are not straight, cannot be straightened, and Costa did not honor the warranty, offering the explanation as noted above. They did however offer a discount code so that I may purchase a new pair of Costa glasses at a reduced price. Considering my experience and the response from Costa, I will not purchase additional Costa eyewear.
