clockify used to be free always but now it's just maximum 5 people.
That's not even the bad part. The really bad thing is that the software is now so buggy, it's always hanging when I try to change member details or add people to teams. I also cannot create a second group, the button for add is greyed out without any reason!
Unfortunately this app is not usable anymore, super annoying experience. I was always a fan of it but now it's just unusable. Horrible!

Thank you for sharing your feedback. We understand your frustration regarding the Free plan adjustments and the new 5-user limit. While we’re grateful to have supported teams at no cost for so long, updating our plans is necessary to sustainably maintain and improve the service moving forward.
However, the freezing and the inability to create a group are definitely not intended behavior. So we can investigate this further, please reach out to us at [email protected], our team will be more than happy to troubleshoot this for you right away.

Randomly changed the price of the offeringe
Randomly changed the price of the offering from free to 300+ Euro a year. I have used it for years without any issues but this change is ridiculous.
Response from Clockify (by CAKE.com)Oct 9, 2026
Hi Daniel,
Thank you for sharing your feedback. We are happy to be able to support you all these years.
We are currently updating our free plan for the first time in nearly a decade to ensure the highest standards of service for all our users.
While certain advanced features now require a paid subscription, we still offer a free version of Clockify to help small teams track time.
We would love the opportunity to assist you through this transition and help you find the best setup for your workspace.
Please feel free to reach out to our Support team directly at [email protected] anytime!

Shady practices that violate your privacy
I downloaded clockify to see if it would be a good option for tracking project time for our nonprofit. I was still in the test phases of it sending it out to my immediate team to test it until I got a sales call on my personal cell phone number. At no time that I ever in my registration provide my personal cell phone number as I have a business cell phone number for my job. When I asked him how he got that number he admitted he had searched a public forum for my information which gave my personal cell phone number. That is truly not okay and a huge violation of my privacy that I did not give permission for. I immediately disconnected canceled my account and looked for another program to use. Clockify has shown me that they are a shady organization that has no problem using shady tactics. Our nonprofit due to the vulnerable population we protect has to remain protected and an organization that would seek out my personal information to contact when they were given a business telephone number to contact is not one I want to partner with.

Hello Meredith,
Thank you for sharing your feedback.
First and foremost, we sincerely apologize for the unwelcome outreach and completely understand your concerns regarding this contact.
To clarify what happened, our sales team reaches out to offer guidance during trial evaluations so users get the most value out of Clockify. For contact details, our team relies on standard B2B database platforms (in this case, Apollo) to source business lines. We had no idea this was your personal number, had we known, we certainly would not have used it. However, we recognize that this does not change how frustrating the outcome was for you.
We deeply respect your concerns regarding privacy and your decision to cancel your account, but also we would love the opportunity to welcome you and your team back to test Clockify in a completely self-serve, non-contact environment with no further sales outreach.
As an immediate step, we are ensuring your details are permanently removed from our internal systems.
Additionally, we would be glad to submit a formal request to Apollo on your behalf to have your information removed from their database as well.
We sincerely regret the negative impression this left and wish your organization all the best!

Disappointing bait and switch
We've used Clockify for years and have been mostly happy with it, but the latest changes to the Free plan have completely changed my opinion of the company.
We're a charity, and the new five user limit effectively takes us from paying nothing to around £1,800 a year for something we use relatively lightly. Rather than adding value to encourage upgrades, Clockify has stripped away existing functionality to force established users who have built their processes around the system onto paid plans. It's difficult to see that as anything other than a bait and switch.
I've also noticed Clockify responding to seemingly every negative Trustpilot review with very similar corporate responses. It feels more like a PR exercise than any genuine attempt to engage with why previously happy customers are so frustrated.
We'll now be looking for an alternative.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts with us.
We completely understand your frustration, changing long established workflows and budgets is never easy.
While we’re grateful for being able to support your team for free all these years, updating our plans for the first time in almost a decade is necessary for us to keep maintaining and improving the service.
We truly appreciate your understanding as we make this shift and we’d love the chance to assist you before you make a final decision.
Whether you want to see if we can optimize your active seat count or need help cleanly exporting your historical data, please drop us a line at [email protected].
We're happy to help however we can!
SIncerely,

Free plan is now useless, switch to Kimai Self Hosted
Used the app for years but now event basic functions need paid plan. No warning or email communication has been done. Really disappointing. So I ended up creating a self hosted kimai time tracked.

Hello there,
Appreciate the review. Please note that we have released the notification for all workspaces one month before the changes took place.
We are sad to hear that the notification did not reach you. Please reach out to our Support Team at [email protected] and we will be happy to activate a 30-day free trial that you can use to navigate the recorded data and export anything if required!

A six-year user pushed out by a sudden, unannounced downgrade
I used Clockify for over six years as a solo freelancer, purely for my own internal time tracking. Last month the free plan was quietly gutted — no email, no in-app notice, nothing. I logged in one day and the functions I relied on were simply gone.
The billable / non-billable marker I used to separate extra work from contracted work is no longer usable, which makes years of my records far less meaningful. Reporting is now capped at a single month, so I can't look at a full year at a glance anymore. And getting usable data out has become painful — the export formats I actually need for my own analysis are now behind a subscription.
What bothers me most isn't paying. I happily support free tools I value and have donated to far smaller projects many times. If Clockify had said "our costs went up, please chip in," I'd have paid without hesitation. Instead they removed core features overnight, mid-year, with zero communication.
I moved to a self-hosted, open-source tracker and won't be back.

Hello Roman, we made sure to push the in-app notification a month before the changes occurred. We are sad to learn that you did not receive it. With that in mind, please feel free to reach out to our Support Team at [email protected] and request a 30-day free trial due to this - we'll be happy to grant it! By activating the trial, you will be able to access all of your previous data with rates and export all of the data if needed. It was definitely not our intention for users not to be notified. Feel free to reach out anytime for a 30-day trial!

After five years of use, features that were originally part of the product have been removed from my plan
I used Clockify for 5 years and they have now decided to revoke features from my account making it unusable with no warning trying to force me to upgrade my license. This could have been dealt with in a much more thoughtful manner. Now all the information I have input to Clockify over time has now be rendered useless. The response from their customer support has been emotionless and robotic just like their response to this review.
Response from Clockify (by CAKE.com)Jun 17, 2026
Hi Greig,
Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We truly appreciate you using Clockify for the past 5 years, and we understand how frustrating it can feel when changes affect features you’ve been relying on.
To continue keeping Clockify reliable, fast, and sustainable for the long term while still offering unlimited time tracking, we recently updated our Free plan and adjusted feature availability across our plans.
We also provided an in-app notification in advance to inform users about these upcoming changes.
Please rest assured that your data has not been removed. The affected features remain available on our paid plans, and if you need any assistance with the transition, please feel free to reach out to us at [email protected]. We’ll be happy to help!

Doesn't work how it should
Login codes almost never sent, even after clicking "resend code". Sometimes the calendar view bugs out. Their official site shows hoe great they are and many big companies use their services.. Yet I can't leave a review there.
Response from Clockify (by CAKE.com)Jun 16, 2026
Hello Mark,
Appreciate the review. We would like to assist in getting the codes, so please reach out to us at [email protected] so we can tackle this issue together. As a workaround, please try to use account.cake.com/login to get a code and then be redirected to Clockify. Our Support Team will be happy to help in case you continue experiencing these issues!
