Listen to what the people are saying in these reviews and pay no attention to the BBB rating. BBB charges for those ratings. Charter Van Lines is a broker and hire non DOT operators to move you good. I had to get the Sheriffs Dept involved in getting my household items deliver and to top it off they lost 21 containers and tried to give me household good belonging to others.

Avoid Charter Van Lines at all costs.
Avoid Charter Van Lines at all costs.
My family and I have moved eight times, including one international move. Every single move before this one was smoother than our experience with Charter Van Lines. This was, without question, the worst moving experience we’ve ever had.
If you’re thinking about hiring them, read every word of the contract and don’t rely on anything you’re told over the phone.
Here are the biggest red flags:
* The delivery window is up to 21 days from your “available delivery date.” Most people won’t realize what that actually means. Figure out your travel time to your destination using Google Maps—that’s when the clock starts, not necessarily when your belongings are picked up.
* Don’t believe the promised delivery times. We were told 8–9 days. Then it became 7–14 days. Later, we were told it could take the full 21 days. Yes, the 21-day window is buried in the contract, but it certainly wasn’t emphasized during the sales process.
* Insist that the “Deliver No Later Than” date is filled in before you sign. If it’s blank, you’re giving away one of the few protections you have.
* Get every promise in writing. We were assured we’d receive regular updates. Once they had our belongings, those updates stopped, and we were told they weren’t contractually obligated to provide them.
But the delivery timeline wasn’t even the worst part.
Our shipment was handed off to three different companies before it finally reached us. Every transfer increased the chances of something going wrong—and it did. Items were misplaced, belongings were broken, and some things never arrived at all. No family should have to wonder where their possessions are because a company keeps passing the job to someone else.
The entire experience felt like once they had our money and our belongings, we no longer mattered. Communication became almost nonexistent, accountability disappeared, and every phone call resulted in a different answer.
If you’re on a tight schedule, starting a new job, moving with children, or simply expect a company to honor its promises, stay away from Charter Van Lines. Saving a little money isn’t worth weeks of stress, uncertainty, damaged belongings, and missing items.
I wish someone had written this review before we hired them. Hopefully it saves another family from making the same mistake we did.

Booked a move we needed to cancel
Booked a move we needed to cancel a month before the move date. Stated on the paperwork no issue if booked at least 7 days prior to booked date for a full refund of our $800 deposit. That was in May and after 12 emails and 6 calls we have not heard a single word! Was told on July 8th they mailed a check on July 2nd and now (July 17th) we still have no refund!

COMPANY IS THIRD PARTY VENDOR NOT ACTUAL MOVERS AND COMPANY GROSSLY UNDERESTIMATES COST TO GET BUSINESS
If I could give them 0 stars I would. DO NOT USE- they should not have a good rating for their poor customer service, inaccurate estimates, and lack of communication.
In March I called to schedule a move for approximately end of May from Rowlett, TX to Chicago, IL. I relayed the amount of furniture (including sizes) I needed moved and estimate of the number of boxes I would need. I was originally quoted at $3300; I paid the $206 deposit to reserve the move.
This week, upon confirming my move I gave the exact measurements for my furniture (which I provided an updated list as I sold some items) and an updated list of boxes (as I was pretty much packed up). My box count increased from 50 to 80. I provided the exact measurements and asked to add an additional five boxes in case I needed a few more to pack. I also included the loose items (hampers, brooms, trash bins, etc) in this final confirmation. My new estimate was increased to $4100- $4200 and I was required to pay an additional ~$250 for the deposit. The updated quote was for 904 cubits.
Today, moving day, my final itemized list included the same furniture previously provided, and a final box count of 88. Upon arrival I walk the movers through the house to show what will be moved and Manuel indicates that worse case scenario my final cost will be $7200. That is more double my initial quote. While things changed, having confirmed my items earlier in the week I did not expect the move to potentially mean spending an additional ~$3000 (from the second quote). I expected to pay for the additional boxes, but this is beyond anything I could imagine.
I called the company to understand how this happened, but never got a direct answer. I was only told we can load to the 904 cubits and then we can see how much more it will cost. But when I pressed on what happens after it I’m told it’ll cost $xxx more, I was told I’d have to pay it.
As stated before this company grossly underestimated my estimate after having my finalized list. This feels like at worst predatory pricing and at best use of an incorrect estimating calculation. It’s as if I was underquoted to gain the business only to be forced into higher pricing as it is the day of the move.
I do not blame the workers; but I can’t imagine I’m the only one who has had this happen. And I fear they bear the brunt of misquotes to customers.

Update:
I move in today (July 2nd). The building requires a Certificate of Insurance. I called yesterday, emailed the particulars needed but never heard back. Today I call and was told I needed to have made my request 25-48 hours before the move in date. Something never expressed to me until today.

This is a scam.
This is a scam.
I started booking a cross country move with this company and had sent them a $619 deposit. However, when I realized they were a broker I opted out and never signed the moving agreement. I stopped the deal in its tracks and asked for them to send me a refund (this was on the 3rd of June) which they claim to do.
I have made numerous calls to their customer service, they won’t let me talk to an accountant to get a refund processing date and they can’t supply me with a refund reference number. Instead I’ve been referred to an email address for this info, they have yet to get back with me.
Not going to lie, I’m very frustrated.
My order number is 5177452.

DO NOT CALL THIS COMPANY!!!
I called them to get a quote. They claimed they were giving me discounts but could only guarantee the price if I took it then and didn't hang up. I was just shopping for prices. They claimed they had a truck picking up furniture in a neighboring town, and I had less than a one bedroom size amount of totes and two small pieces of furniture it would work out great. It would be delivered from FL to WI within 5-7 business days barring no bad weather or truck issues. I said great. BIG MISTAKE. They said I could pay for the entire delivery up front with credit card. THAT IS THE FIRST LIE THEY TELL YOU!! You can pay by credit card on the phone for half. The next portion has to be paid by cash or Zelle when they pick up the items and it is half of the remaining balance, plus tip for those drivers. Then drop off has to be paid in cash or Zelle plus tip. MAKE NOTE: THEY WILL ADD ON SEVERAL HUNDRED DOLLARS STATING THEY HAD TO CHANGE TRUCKS AND SOMEHOW THAT IS YOUR PROBLEM. Charter third parties your delivery out. My delivery was third partied out to All Moving Relocation, LLC. They tried charging me $300 more for my totes to be deliverd and I had a standoff in the driveway for almost 2 hours. I had only two pieces of furniture, of which one was not on the truck and I still have not received. The contract said delivery to be made within 21 business days, so that would have been April 20th, 2026. Today is May 7th and I have yet to receive it. You are given date, then another date, etc. At this point I am considering it stolen. PLEASE DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. THEY ARE GOD AWFUL LIARS.
