Our Century New Construction Home Has Become a Money Pit
I rarely write reviews like this, but after our experience with Century Communities, I feel prospective buyers should understand what our experience has been, particularly after closing and when dealing with the warranty department. Century sells its new construction homes with a homeowner warranty that is supposed to protect homeowners when construction defects and workmanship issues arise. Unfortunately, our experience has been that getting Century to actually acknowledge and correct those issues has been an exhausting and frustrating process. We have had problems ranging from relatively simple construction issues to major, expensive concerns. Our dishwasher was installed incorrectly. We had a door that would not latch. These should have been simple warranty repairs, yet even straightforward issues became unnecessarily difficult to resolve. The most significant problem has been our HVAC system. During our first winter, my 4-year-old son's bedroom, which is located over the garage, dropped to 57 degrees. When I reported the issue, rather than receiving a meaningful solution, I was actually told that I could move my son to another bedroom. That response told me a great deal about what dealing with the warranty department was going to be like.
