Poor service, ironically all due to easyjet. Flight cancelled the morning of our flight to manchester so we’re forced to switch to a flight to Gatwick instead. En route to the airport decided it would be easier and lower cost to hire a car to get four people with bags back to Manchester. Booked a car with enterprise via the easyjet car hire system thinking it might make the expenses reimbursement process easier. Sat on the tarmac before departure to get a call from enterprise saying they didn’t have a car available but we could wait three hours after our booked time for one. We declined and said to cancel the booking. Amazingly, this didn’t result in an automatic refund. It was down to us to get in touch with easyjet car hire and explain what had happened and ask for a refund. They then asked US to prove enterprise didn’t have the car (kinda hard to do given how we were notified by phone). Then rather than corroborate the information directly with enterprise, it was down to US to provide call logs to evidence the phone call that took place. Eastjet car hire have taken a month to assess the evidence we supplied and have now ‘generously’ going to be refunded. One final catch, the refund could take 25 days. Our money was taken within 24 hours yet it takes best part of two months to get a refund through no fault of our own! Shocking treatment.

For a trip to Spain I decided for the first time ever to book my car hire via EasyJet car hire. The car was actually contracted from Europcar. The day before departure I wanted to add my flight number to the car hire booking as recommended in case of delays etc, Inalso wanted to pre check-in (which can save time doing paperwork) using my Europcar account and although it could see my booking However I was unable to add my flight number nor pre check-in, I called the EasyJet on their contact number and explained and the representative said he could add my flight number for me which he duly did, I said I also wanted to pre check-in however that was not something he could do so I called the Europcar desk at Alicante airport and asked if I could pre check in, they said that I could not use that facility because I had booked via a third party as opposed to direct booking? I asked if they could manually book me in or at least advise I was definitely arriving the next day (Saturday 14th May) and again the answer was no. On arrival at Alicante and attending the car hire desk I was advised the car I had selected had gone, I asked why and was told it was because I was later collecting it than I had said, I realised I had put down and earlier time in error and so was 3 hours later than I had originally said and in accordance with both EasyJet and Europcars conditions I was a ‘no show’, I accepted that I had put down an incorrect time however my flight number and details were provided therefore they would have known the time I would arrive just as if I were delayed by a flight issue but no, I called EasyJet car hire to who also said they could do nothing even though my flight details were provided to Europcar! I argued that if I had been able to pre check-in the likelihood that the arrival time discrepancy would have been found and resolved however I was prevented from doing so, in the end I had to pay over £100 more to rent a higher spec car because Europcar said they had let my one go and had no similar available?, the moral is BOOK YOUR CAR HIRE DIRECT WITH THE TENTAL COMPANY TO AVOID LOSING FLEXIBILITY and also ensure that you do arrive within 2 hours of the booking otherwise the rental company will not honour your booked car even if you have paid up front. The first higher spec car we got from Europcar was mechanically defective so we had to return and go through the whole process again to get a second car which was okay, why would car hire company provide a car that was defective I don’t know, so we lost 2 hours through that process, beware of car hire companies and don’t fall into simple traps as I did?

Our Easyjet flight EZS1492 was planned to leave 11:20 BHX and arrive at GVA 14:00, please find attached evidence of flight delay. The pilot said the delay was due to Easyjet staff shortages. The majority of this delay occurred once we were sitting on the plane and boarding. Our flight number was included on our car hire booking. A call to the number on the booking resulted in a looped voice message and ended the call. The booking contract stated that the car hire companies desk opening times were between 08:00 and 22:00 Saturdays, please see attached extract from contract still online and available. We arrived at Geneva, we split up so my wife collected our baggage and I went to collect the car, I arrived at the car collection desk at 14:55 I found the car hire desk was closed with a temporary opening hours sign, we have a photo of this if it helps, it stated the desk closed at 2pm. Easyjet failed here to align it's car hire booking opening hours Sat – 08.00 – 22.00 with the actual opening hours of the car hire provider of until 14:00pm. We still arrived to collect the car within a reasonable period after planned collection considering the stated opening hours. We found other people in the same situation, we are in contact with them. We made many calls to different numbers to try and rectify the situation but we could only get in automatic voice mail loops with finally calls being ended, we finally looked at alternative options to travel to our accommodation, with the only alternative being to hire another car for 1 day and return the next day to collect our originally hired vehicle. The only available from Geneva from Hertz Switzerland. We booked the car for 1 day with the intention of contacting Thrifty / Car Trawler on Sunday to swap. We then discovered that the Sunday opening times for the Thrifty desk was not as advertised (08.00 – 22.30). They were closed on Sunday too. On Monday 21st Feb we finally made contact with Car Trawler, they advised us that there was no vehicle availability to return the vehicle and swap it for our original booking therefore we had no alternative but to extend the Hertz car hire for the rest of the week. The Car Trawler help desk person clearly asked us to keep receipts as we would be able to claim the difference in cost Between our Hertz car hire and our Car Trawler (Easyjet Car Rental) booking on our return. Both Easyjet and Car Trawler deny any blame
