Right from the beginning I had reservations about purchasing an annuity from Canvas. The process was confusing. There was an initial setup that asked for a password. I did that without too much trouble. Then I got an email with a link that apparently was the actual portal to purchasing a CD. The two funds were fairly straightforward. But when I was asked to create another logon my heart sank. I've seen this before. Canvas is using software that does not gel well with Google's password saving system. When Google suggested a strong password I accepted that I would probably not be able to logon after the process was completed, and that is what happened. I will try customer service tomorrow. Not expecting much. Would not recommend this company.

Great rates — but ongoing website accuracy issues
Devon and Lida’s personal service plus the strong annuity rates were the reasons for my initial 5‑star rating. HOWEVER, getting to that point was not easy. Here is what I learned during the process:
1. A website glitch prevented my initial forms submission.
2. Devon walked me through several of the website forms by phone and corrected a few of my mistakes.
3. If you don’t see solid green checkmarks for every step, the process is not complete.
4. Canvas had a $1,000,000 cap per annuity, so additional annuities required repeating the entire application process.
5. Unlike every other annuity I researched, if rates increase within 30 days of your issue date, Canvas will backdate and pay the higher rate.
6. Funds are delivered to their Puritan Life Insurance affiliate, where Sandy and her staff were extremely helpful.
UPDATE — April 2026:
Despite multiple requests over several years, Canvas still cannot provide accurate month‑end balances on their website. As of April 1, 2026, the platform is still showing March 30 balances. Every other financial institution I work with provides month‑end data reliably. Canvas remains the only exception.
Response from Canvas AnnuityApr 1, 2026
Thank you for your updated feedback, Glenn. We understand the importance of timely and accurate month-end balances. As of today, account balances were updated at 9:00 AM Arizona time. We appreciate you bringing this to our attention and are continuing to improve the overall platform experience.

Your chat capability totally SUCKS
Your chat capability totally SUCKS! You say it was a live person, but I truly believe it was an AI chatbot. When I asked a question about the product I was totally ghosted. I tried several times to call and the recorded message kept saying agents were helping other clients and then a final message said to leave a voicemail and someone would call me back.
I decided to move forward only because I have previous experience with annuities and the parent company, Puritan Life Insurance has a BBB rating of B++. I certainly how your products are better than your customer service.
Response from Canvas AnnuityDec 3, 2025
Hi Mark, I'm sorry you had this experience, and I appreciate you taking the time to spell out what happened.
A couple of clarifications, and most importantly, next steps: our chat is handled by a real person — a Canvas agent (not an AI chatbot). That said, you absolutely shouldn’t have felt ghosted. If a message was missed or a session disconnected, that’s on us, and we want to understand exactly where the breakdown occurred so we can fix it.
On the phone side, when call volume is high you may hear a message indicating agents are assisting other clients and you may be routed to voicemail for a callback. We know that’s not ideal when you need answers in the moment, and your feedback is noted.
We’re glad you felt confident moving forward based on your experience with annuities and Puritan Life Insurance and we want our service to match the quality of the products. If you’re willing, please email us ([email protected]) with your name and the best number/email to reach you (and, if you have it, the approximate date/time of the chat or call). A Canvas agent will follow up to address your product questions and make sure everything is squared away.
Thank you again for raising this — it helps us improve.

Up front process better than ongoing
If feedback taken serious as stated in review responses, issues would addressed instead of recommending you write or call the same people you already have.
Over a year ago as my wife and I were accumulating many annuities for hundreds of thousands of dollars and I gave Puritan/Canvas a 5 star review. That was for having an online direct to consumer fixed annuity with a good rate and the ability to purchase through EFT/ACH direct from checking.
But now I am encountering issues with customer service related to security and withdrawals.
An identity theft issue had me inquiring about additional security such as simple 2 step verification like even a water company would have. They don't offer it or anything close.
I requested partial withdrawal and observed that they take a nonstandard amount of time. They do say 5 to 10 business days so they do advertise they are slow about it. I requested a withdrawal from Puritan and another company on January 1st. Other company's withdrawal was in the bank and available on January 3rd while Puritan's January 15th and that was fast compared to the most recent requested withdrawal my wife made.
After 10 calendar days we wrote Puritan customer service just to make sure they had the request and were just taking the full 10 days or for some reason more. 3 days later no response or sign of processing.
If you want to take $200.00 a month out of your annuity you can use EFT/ACH according to the request form but if you want to take out 5000.00 for some expense, you can only choose a check according to request form. If it took 1 day to "fix" this it would be too long.

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback, Kevin. We regret the frustration you’ve experienced, and we understand how important timely service and security features are when managing your annuity.
We appreciate your past trust in Canvas and the recognition of our platform’s strengths. That said, we take your concerns seriously, and we recognize the need for continuous improvement. Regarding security, we understand that enhanced verification measures like two-step authentication are becoming industry standards, and while we do have security protocols in place, we acknowledge that there is room to evolve. Your input reinforces the importance of these enhancements, and we will be sharing your feedback with our internal teams for future development and one we hope we can deliver on, sooner rather than later.
Regarding withdrawal processing times, while we aim to complete requests within the stated 5 to 10 business days, we understand that a comparison with other providers may cause frustration. Delays can sometimes occur due to processing factors, but a lack of communication on the status of your request is not acceptable. We apologize for the delayed response to your inquiry and will be reviewing our response times to ensure better customer service moving forward. Additionally, your concern about withdrawal methods and restrictions is something we will be discussing internally to evaluate possible improvements.
We value your business and would appreciate the opportunity to address your concerns directly. If you’re open to it, we’d like to connect you with a member of our team to discuss your experience in more detail. Please reach out to [email protected] at your convenience.
Your feedback is invaluable in helping us improve, and we hope to regain your confidence in our service.
