Don't Use Them or Allow the Tow Truck To Take Yours There
I was T-boned in my 1999 Corvette in 2017. The wrecker took it to Caliber Collision in Greenville, SC. who did the repairs. (As an aside, USAA was our insurance company and has been the most wonderful company who actually stands by their customers). ALL the driver's side was replaced by Caliber Collision. Within a month or so, I took her back due to an "air leak" in the drivers' window. It was adjusted numerous times and still continued to leak air. She was always garaged (and driven with continued air leak; at some time it seemed useless to complain until a few years later when we were in the process of building a home in Ocala, Fl. We left her with our son in Largo, Fl. where she was left outside, with a cover. Our son called us a month or so later and said he had found mildew and wet carpet on the driver's side. We bought a 2nd cover (placed on top of the 1st) and left her there for another few weeks. At that time, we were living in our MH waiting for our house to be finished, brought her to our "lot", parked her under the awning with the 2 covers on her without any problems and drove her frequently. We moved into our house in March of 2020 and she was garaged (and spoiled as usual!). Not long after, in the early summer of 2020, I was driving her in a Florida "downpour". When I turned on my wipers, water began running down the driver's window. Back to Caliber Collision in Ocala. They "adjusted" the window alignment. The next time I drove her in the rain, the leak was worse. I took her back to Caliber. I won't bore you with the other 2 times I took her back but will say that every time they "adjusted" the window, she leaked worse in the next rain when the wipers were on "high". The most recent time was about a month ago: I was driving with my husband, the passenger, had my wipers on high: I could barely keep my eyes on the road while I was wiping rain running down my window and then found that the water was now dripping on my left foot at the same time. She was garaged for a month or so other than for a few quick trips to the store and to charge her batteries: Never in the rain: I had learned my lesson . We took her to Hudson Repair as I no longer trusted Caliber (with their "lifetime warranty"). They suggested that the windshield be removed and checked for a problem there but also recommended we take her back to Caliber (due to the expense - honesty at its best!). Took her to Caliber Collision yesterday and provided them with the entire history. Today, we talked with Craig, the Regional Manager (I think that was his title), who advised the "leak or more leaks" could be from numerous problems with seals, etc, not related to the accident or their repairs. He did mention the 'Cowling', (I think that is the spelling) may be the problem: (USAA paid the for that, according to my husband's call with them several weeks ago). Craig said they had no record of replacing the "cowling". We will check with USAA tomorrow. My response was that we have had leaks ever since their repairs. Each time, the leak (air originally, then moving to water) worsened after their "repair". Craig was somewhat defensive advising that due to her age, it could be seals, etc. He did not respond to the information we provided that this was not a problem UNTIL CC worked on her the first time right after the accident. And repeating, every time they worked on the air/rain leak it got worse. Now the driver's door is seriously out of line, which is easily seen by the naked eye; the "bonnet" at the drive's side is not fitting and can be "pushed down" with slight finger pressure. I would not recommend them to my worst enemy -- well maybe not. Long story short, while they did replace the entire right side of her, their "fix" has caused almost as many problems as they were initially presented with. Every time they have been allowed to touch her, they have made the initial problem worse. I don't know if it is poor workmanship to start with, a lack of caring about the continuing problems due to their incompetence, or a lack of care because she falls within their "lifetime guarantee". Craig told us today that if they had to pull off their "repairs" (the entire driver's side) and all they found was an "old, broken seal" it would cost us a small fortune. I'm betting if we allowed that, all they would find was an "old, broken seal" which of course we could not claim was a result of the accident (even though it may have been given the extreme damage). Duh!!! There is a water specialist in our area, but again, they will not take financial responsibility to have her inspected to find the problem. I am angry, frustrated and extremely displeased with their care, workmanship and failure to fix the problem over the past 4 years during which they had more than ample time to take care of. I would not recommend them to anyone.
