Contractors wouldn't return my calls until I hired Buildzoom
In early 2022 we decided to do a total kitchen remodel and replace the vanities in 3 bathrooms. I could not get a general contractor to return my calls. And the few I did get a chance to speak with said our job was too small.
I contacted Buildzoom in May and within a week I had appointments with three contractors. I did not like one of the contractors so Buildzoom found me a fourth within days. And as it turned out I hired the fourth company.
While comparing the different companies Buildzoom's team walked me through the bids; making sure we were comparing apples to apples. After selecting the contractor Buildzoom went through the contract and made several amendments on my behalf. It was worth paying for the premium package to have another set of eyes on the contract.
The Buildzoom team was very responsive and we were able to handle walk throughs and meetings via Zoom calls.

SHADY Contacts
Started to fill out their form, but never finished it after reading all of the negative reviews, however, I immediately started getting text messages from people who never even bothered to give their business name. Be aware - VERY SHADY

Hi Kendra,
We understand that our information collecting process can be long, so we do our best to make it as simple as possible to use. Once you fill out each section and hit the submit button, our system is triggered and processes that information in the case someone does not complete the form in full. This was your case, and one of our reps reached out to check in to see if you would still like to move forward with the process.
If you would like to learn more about BuildZoom, we would be happy to speak with you further. Please feel free to reach out to [email protected].

Never depend on Buildzoom
Never depend on Buildzoom! I planned to build an ADU, so I felt it wise to hire project managers for the job. My understanding was they would help me with the entire process and make sure I didn't get ripped off by anyone. The joke was on me; I got ripped off...by Buildzoom! Our initial meeting was great. I thought they had my back. It seems they really just wanted access to my credit card account. I have ended up with awful suggestions for contractors, outrageous bids, lack of information and misinformation. I finally said stop, but have to pay the entire amount, $7200, even though nothing more than zooms, e-mails and withdrawing money from my account have been done. I was looking for safety and support when building my ADU and have found Buildzoom to be lacking in both. I have realized many others have been taken advantage of as well. This is not a respectable company. Please look elsewhere for help building your ADU.

Hi Patricia,
We are very sorry to hear about your experience. I have reviewed your project and I'd like to help clarify a couple of things in your review.
We charge an initial down payment to ensure that property owners are serious about getting work completed, and the price of the down payment differs depending on the cost of the total contract. Before we begin our premium process, we have all clients sign a premium agreement which clearly states an invoice schedule, including a description of what you are paying for. At the beginning of the project, all parties involved agreed to change the SKU of the project, thus also changing the invoice structure. Our team notified all client parties at least 24 hours in advance each time a new invoice was scheduled, as proven by our email history.
In general during the sourcing stage, our team speaks with the property owner to better understand the scope of the project, and from there, reaches out to the best and most relevant contractors in the area to meet with the property owner and submit bids. In your specific case, our team reached out to a total of 7 contractors in your area for your project, 3 of which were interested in continuing the conversation. When our Project Manager reviewed the bids, they were successfully able to reduce the initial bids quite substantially by catching unnecessary expenses, and limiting potential for change orders during construction. For example, you received an initial bid for $292k, and our after our team reviewed and edited it, we sent it back to the contractor and it was reduced by $33k. This is part of the value of BuildZoom's Premium service: Value engineering.
As it relates to your concern about our sourcing process - BuildZoom assists property owners with finding contractors in their local area and act as an owner's rep to help them validate contractors and get through the pre-construction process, however we don’t have our own network of contractors. We partner with over 2000 building departments and contractor license boards across the United States to maintain a database of almost 4 million contractors. Similarly, we receive permit data from city or county building departments. We pull this permit data every day to ensure we have the most updated information for all of our contractors.
Again, we are very sorry to hear that you were dissatisfied with our service.

If I could give 0 or negative stars I…
If I could give 0 or negative stars I would. AVOID--AVOID--AVOID, unless you like wasting $5-7,000 on "premium services". Wrong time zone meetings, poor quality contractors and communication that is horrid. This company did NOTHING past two extremely high bids (send as PDF) and charged $7200...for their "service". It's a joke and with seeing that there are lawsuits pending against them...I can see why. Go elsewear...anywhere else!

Short Timeline, No Problem!
I was on a short timeline to get contractors to come view my project. BuildZoom listened and within 1 day, I had multiple contractors calling me! In addition, BuildZoom followed up with me after each call. I 100% recommend this company for any investor who wants assistance with finding contractors!

pressured and bullied
Build zoom folks are liars. They told me they have 2 services, complimentary introduction to contractors for no charge and NO OBLIGATION, and then a premium service for $4,500.00 where they would "manage" my home remodel (as if I need that for a simple remodel).
Contractors were average at best, some not, and they are also made to pay a fee to buildzoom for every job.
They told me we have to work together through buildzoom and I told contractors I had no intention of using build zoom pay service, and this was supposed to be an introduction with no obligation.
Well, I went with another contractor that was more willing to work with me at a better price, but then folks from buildzoom called me and tried to reprimand me for telling the contractors that buildzoom wanted to charge me $4,500.00 to work with them (they double-dip and contractors were unaware).
They were extremely rude to me on the phone and talked in a threatening manner. When I finally told them I had no intention of ever using them or their contractors, they abruptly hung up on me like a low-rent telemarketer.
They are extremely unprofessional and try to high-pressure unsuspecting or unknowledgeable people into paying exorbitant fees using sleazy sales tactics then resort to intimidation if that des not work.
Pass on these people, they are liars and would-be thieves

Hi Thomas,
We are very sorry to hear about your experience. We are taking the appropriate steps internally to investigate and address this issue.
It is important to note that BuildZoom partners with over 2000 building departments and contractor boards across the US to maintain records of over 3.8 million contractors. The contractors found on Buildzoom are not employed or affiliated directly with BuildZoom. Think of BuildZoom like Yelp but for local contractors — Yelp maintains a large database of Restaurants, we maintain a large database of contractors and offer services to help source local contractors, and a Premium Service that helps compare and review bids & contracts.
BuildZoom offers two services to property owners: (1) a complimentary (free) service where we source contractors in your area who are the best fits for the specs of the project. And (2), a premium service where one of our project consultants manages the pre-hire process for the property owner, which includes bid management, bid reviews, and contract administration.
As a property owner using our complimentary service, there is absolutely no obligation to pay anything to BuildZoom when we source contractors for the project. With BuildZoom's premium service, our experienced project consultants leverage bid leveling and normalization to unlock value engineering possibilities to help property owners save money during the construction phase of the project.
Customer experience is paramount for us and it's important that people have the best experience when using BuildZoom, no matter which service they end up choosing. If you still need help, please email us at [email protected].
