Have been trying for years to reconstitute my son’s Lego sets so I can either sell on eBay or put completed smaller sets in charity shops. Very frustrating as many small bits must have been vacuumed up over the years (occasionally I still come across a bit of Lego that got trapped behind a cupboard or on a bookshelf), but as my son was a generous soul he would just hand over, say, a mini-fig from the Indiana Jones series to whichever friend he was playing with at the time. Although eBay is quite good at finding Lego sets and mini-figs, not so good at individual parts or bricks, and ordering from Lego direct is extortionately expensive in shipping charges. So to find an online company such as Bricklink, which offers a huge range of bricks and individual pieces, as well as mini-figs, is excellent. The drawback is that you do need to spend ages tracking down a seller (hello, Stoaty’s Bricks & Figures!) who can provide most of the pieces you need, of a sufficient quantity and value to justify the order. I managed to get quite a sizeable order together, and found dealing with Chris Leathlean, the owner of Stoaty’s, a rare pleasure, as he was courteous, informative and extremely professional in all my dealings with him. My order arrived promptly and thoughtfully packed. Stoaty’s will be my go-to for my future transactions, in the hopes they might have restocked pieces I was unable to track down the first time. Many thanks, Stoaty’s!

Crowdfunding? That has been ridiculous. No fairness at all. For many people it was just not possible to be connected on time (those who think differently, good for them) The same for using the ‘glitch’. Poor excuses to not make more set available. And last, this set is another category as the previous designer castle. Just look at the minifigs and the details. Sad that a minority who could get one blame those who had funerals, sick children to care, work, sleep after long day of work, traveling without network, etc etc etc.

Bricklink crowdfunding program worked very well. Bought 5 castles and 5 boats and the site worked very well. Rules were clear and everyone knew starting time and that they would have been limited edition sets. Complaining people just didn't read the rules or arrived too late, and many of them didn't understand the difference between Lego, Lego Ideas, and Bricklink. That is why they still whining. Bricklink team did a great job!

The Bricklink Designer Program has given folks a chance to purchase sets that missed out on being official Lego Ideas sets. Lego cant produce every design ever made due to production (they only have X amount of factories, not unlimited). Many of the sets now available are large and unique! Like a proper train station, various extremely detailed buildings and other designs which a regular Lego collector would not be able to build by themselves. As the sets are limited in quantity (5000 each of 15 designs), there is also much exclusivity. Surprisingly though, thanks to a glitch in the system (the purchasing process protected against 'bots'), approximately 6800 buyers were able to pre purchase the first set to sell out, being The Castle! The program operators decided to raise all the set productions to 10,000 copies of each (15 sets x 10,000 copies each = 150,000 in total instead of 75,000). The downside is all futures sales of the remaining 10 sets are limited to 1 per Lego.com account (which will be strickly enforced). This means that some AFOLS who are purchasing additional sets for friends in locations which are unable to access the program will have to set up multiple accounts to do so and it might mean some of those 10 (+4) designs may not be able to sell all 10,000 copies, therefore, some of the creators of the sets will not receive their maximum commission from Lego :'( Otherwise the program looks like a wonderful success and I hope Bricklink and Lego manage to make it a regular occurrence!!! Please please please raise the purchase limit to 2 sets per person!!! On a small note, scalpers and investers were limited in numbers with only a few hundred buyers purchasing 3 - 5 sets of The Castle. Bricklink has been a fantastic marketplace to be able to purchase old sets and individual Lego pieces from private sellers from all over the world and I have been an avid user for many years. The sellers are (mostly) enthusiasts so the likelihood of being scammed like on ebay is greatly minimised. You do have the protection of Paypal in the unlikely event though. Thank you Bricklink, and especially the original creator Daniel Jezek (RIP Champ)!!!

People posting about how great the designer program is are just here to try to drown our negative reviews. This program just exploits the fan base by making unnecessary scarce supply. Bricklink even admitted that they made a mistake by allowing 5 sets be purchased by one user on an exclusive lottery. Yet did nothing to try and rectify this and leaves the fan base open to significantly inflated prices in six months. Very disappointed in the bricklink designer program. Current format seems to value exclusivity for resellers over real fans. Change program to give exclusive box and figure for first 5000 people and let people get the set they want. I think the forced exclusivity is to actually get the fan base worked up to then buy at really marked up prices.

Poorly run with unfathomable decisions made. Unacceptable and infuriating.

I was really hoping to be able purchase the new castle set from the designer program. Only to find it was sold in less than 30 minutes and no further set to be supplied. It simply makes no sense to have only 5000 sets for program which requires at least 10000 supporters !!??? And the cherry on the top is to allow up to 5 sets per person, opening the doors for those resale scammers to exploit the true fans of the product .
