★☆☆☆☆ Our mortgage experience with Bank of Oklahoma/BOK Financial has been frustrating, costly, and unnecessarily stressful. After repeated requests for clear answers about our application, we kept receiving variations of “we’re working on it.” We needed specific information about what was holding up approval, what could resolve it, and whether our closing date was realistic. Getting that information was an ongoing struggle. Our loan officer, Rob Baumgarten, ultimately told us in writing that we qualified for the mortgage but did not qualify for the down payment assistance because of our debt-to-income ratio. We chose to move forward with another lender. Then we received a denial letter listing inability to verify income and insufficient credit—reasons that did not match the explanation we had been given. That discrepancy deserves an explanation. The delays and late communication had real consequences. We arranged utilities around the scheduled closing and were left dealing with deposits for a house we had not moved into. After the closing delays, we also received an unpaid-premium notice from our homeowners insurance provider, creating another issue for us to untangle. Even after switching lenders, we are still trying to get the appraisal transfer completed so our purchase can move forward. I understand that mortgage approval involves documentation and underwriting requirements. What I cannot accept is repeatedly having to chase basic information, receiving conflicting explanations, and being left to coordinate unresolved issues while our home purchase hangs in the balance. Based on our experience, I would not recommend BOK Financial for a mortgage. We needed clear communication, timely follow-through, and consistent answers. That is not what we received.
