Buyer Beware
I purchased two chaise lounges from Blu Dot on July 18, 2026, and this has been one of the worst customer-service experiences I have had with a premium furniture company. The loungers arrived with an obvious problem in the wheel assemblies. The wooden wheels use an extremely thin rubber ring, approximately 1/4 inch thick, as the actual contact surface. The rings on my loungers were already warped and deformed, and the bottom of the wheels visibly flattened under the weight of the furniture. The rings also appear capable of slipping out of the groove in the wooden wheel. I immediately notified Blu Dot, provided photographs, and tried to obtain replacement rubber rings. I was told the replacement rings were backordered until the end of the year. Despite the condition of the product and the fact that replacement rings for this exact component were unavailable for months, Blu Dot simply insisted there was no defect. The loungers were never used. The tags remained attached, and they were still wrapped in the manufacturer’s protective plastic. Blu Dot agreed to take the loungers back, but then attempted to withhold 20% of my purchase price as a restocking fee. That is where this went from poor product quality to completely unacceptable business conduct. The actual purchase order and invoice for my transaction state a 10% restocking fee. When I pointed that out, Blu Dot attempted to rely on a separate general wholesale agreement containing a 20% provision. So even if a restocking fee were appropriate, Blu Dot is attempting to charge me double the percentage stated on the paperwork for my actual purchase. But there should be no restocking fee at all. This was not buyer’s remorse. I did not use the furniture and then decide I no longer wanted it. I reported the problem immediately, documented it with photographs, and returned the loungers unused, tagged, and still wrapped. Blu Dot has now taken possession of both loungers and is still attempting to keep a significant portion of my money. I consider that completely unacceptable. For a company charging premium prices, I expected premium quality and professional customer service. Instead, I received a product with what I believe is a serious design or manufacturing problem, followed by a refusal to meaningfully address it and an attempt to impose a fee that conflicts with the company’s own transaction documents. I am disputing the withheld amount through my Chase Visa, and I am also proceeding with legal action against Blu Dot to recover the money they are withholding and address their handling of this transaction. At this point, I have given Blu Dot every reasonable opportunity to resolve this directly. Based on my experience, I would strongly caution anyone considering a purchase from Blu Dot to inspect everything immediately, document every issue, and keep every invoice, purchase order, email, and written policy. I would not purchase from this company again.
