Better U wasn’t a “bad” experience, but it was an emotionally confusing one. I wish the expectations, structure, and pricing had been clearly explained from the start. Some of the communication I received felt defensive at moments when I was simply trying to understand what I was paying for and what support was actually included. When you’re already vulnerable and seeking help, tone matters — and the lack of clarity made the process feel heavier than it needed to be. They did try to fix things later, but the early miscommunication shaped the whole experience.
I now work with MindScape. Their process has been clearer, more clinical, and about one‑third the price of Better U. If you’re seeking care at a fair price and with a consistently respectful tone, I’d recommend giving MindScape RX a look.

No clue what they're doing
They cannot even respond to emails with simple questions. This is after multiple attempts at communication. If a company cannot even answer emails, I sure as hell am not going to trust them to administer a drug.

Never received the refund I was…
Never received the refund I was supposed to get. Canceled the order the day after and before my scheduled Tella med because of MRI results and never received a refund or a return response once I shared the MRI results.
Response from Better UDec 23, 2025
Thanks for sharing your experience. We want to clarify for transparency that your refund was already processed in full after your cancellation request and review of your information.
Our policy is that if a patient is deemed ineligible prior to starting treatment, we issue a refund, which is exactly what occurred in your case. We also have records confirming that your MRI results were reviewed and the refund was completed.
If you’re unable to locate the refunded amount, we recommend checking with your bank or card issuer, as processing times can vary. Our support team is also happy to resend confirmation or assist further if needed.
We take these matters seriously and aim to handle every case fairly and promptly.

Ketmine "Therapy" caused Tinnitus
My initial and only dose of ketamine immediately caused tinnitus. It's been over 6 mos with no relief. I no longer have ANY peace or quiet EVER! The loud hissing and ringing I constantly hear interferes with sleep and greatly increases stress and anxiety. The increased sensitivity to noise makes running my business an excruciating task. I will have to sell my business and find a new career. I have 8 unused doses of ketamine that I wasted $700 to get. I was never informed of the risk of permanent injury from this product. Attempts to get assistance have been met with actions to avoid accountability. Better U has treated me in an unprofessional and unethical manner. Far from helping me Better U has caused injury and financial loss.

Do Not Recommend - Disrespectful Intake Clinician
**UPDATE: I called the number that Better U gave me in the response of this review and I left a message and then the next day Better U flagged my review for defamation and it was temporarily taken down😄 And they never called me back.
My recent experience was horrible. After paying, I picked an intake person who was supposed to be a PA, Kelly Jernigan. All of the appointments with an MD were full. When I got onto the video call intake appointment, I saw that the woman was only a clinician. Then the woman was rude and had an attitude almost the whole time. She got mad after I answered one of her questions about something she asked about my most recent physical. She didn't listen to my answer and got angry because she didn't think I was answering the question correctly(rudely said it had nothing to do with what she was asking and needs relevant information only). I tried to ignore this. Then at the end(appointment was very short), she told me about the titrating up process with the medication. I didn't understand it so I kept trying to figure it out, even writing it on paper and showing her since I'm a visual person. She got very angry, saying stuff like, I already told you!! This is right after her asking if I had any questions. So I said I don't appreciate the attitude and rudeness this whole time, now I believe the bad reivews about the place. She said, "we'll refund you!" and hung the call up on me! I couldn't believe it, I went to them for help and ended up in tears. That woman is in the wrong field and I can't believe they keep people like this on their staff.
I sent a message in the portal stating my experience and whoever messaged me back was very sorry and said they would investigate. I also got an email from somone apologizing(not Kelly) but then at the end of the email they had the nerve to say I also wasn't right for treatment which was a lie. Kelly already told me that I was right for treatment, hence telling me about the med titration and what dosage I would be receiving. I'm happy this happened how it did though because I didn't want treatment from them anymore after how Kelly was during the intake. I'm currently about to receive my medication from another company, one where I had a very pleasant intake.
Then they said I would get my refund within 3-5 business days but that didn't happen so I had to do a bank chargeback since I wanted to start therapy elsewhere. Now I see they are trying to refund at 12 business days. I told them I already did a chargeback and didn't get a response.

Hi Erika,
We’re truly sorry to hear about your experience and appreciate you taking the time to share it. We started Better U to lead with love, compassion, and a commitment to ensuring every patient is treated with care and respect, and it’s clear we fell short here.
The physician assistant you referenced is no longer part of our team, as we are committed to partnering only with clinicians who share our values. While this experience does not reflect the care most of our patients receive, your feedback is invaluable in helping us ensure every interaction meets our high standards.
Our Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Zaid Fadul, would like to connect with you directly. Please call our office at 323-433-5883 so we can make this right.

Major Patient Safety and Communication Issues
2025-07-16 UPDATE:
After this review was originally posted, Better U responded stating that gabapentin was not prescribed and attributing the entry in my prescription monitoring profile to a third-party pharmacy system error. However, the documentation provided so far consists only of a prescription copy and a general system error claim. Missing are pharmacy compounding logs, proof of PDMP correction, and technical documentation showing how this alleged error occurred and was corrected.
As a patient, I remain concerned about the implications this has for others receiving mental health treatment. Patients deserve full transparency about what is reported under their names in controlled substance databases.
___
Original Review 2025-07-01:
Better U prescribed gabapentin to be inlcuded in my ketamine compound without telling me, getting my consent, or documenting it anywhere. I only found out when my primary care doctor noticed it on my medication list. This is a serious informed consent violation.
When I tried reaching out about this undisclosed medication, they've ignored every single communication - chat messages, emails, even executive escalation. Complete silence on a legitimate patient safety concern.
We're seeking ketamine treatment because we're struggling with mental health issues and need relief. The last thing we need is a company that secretly prescribes additional medications without telling us, then goes silent when we ask about it. This behavior makes an already difficult situation so much worse.
If you're considering Better U, be aware they may prescribe medications without proper informed consent. If you're already a patient, check with your doctor about what you're actually taking vs what they told you.
Would not recommend. There are other ketamine providers who will actually communicate with their patients and practice proper informed consent.
DO BETTER.

Nothing but the truth about Better U
Update 12MAY….I called it, their reply was lots of excuses. They know who I am. Unless this happens A lot?!?
DJ.
Updated 08MAY….TrustPilot sent me an email regarding Better U…”they’ve asked for more details to better understand your experience”. As you will read below…what “treatments”. Taking 800mgs 5 times now, with maybe 20-25 min minimal experiences…the previous batch I was getting better results and 45-50 min experiences, with good after effects. I’m guessing maybe they are counting on the placebo effect now? Damaged trouches that were overheated in the back of a trailer for 20 hrs in the FL heat, 90 degrees outside is approximately 110-120 degrees inside the trailer. Ask anyone in the trucking business that is a fact! I read a review this morning, same basic Better U review…were these meds from bad batch, or caused by the late delivery the cold pack died during the 22.5 hr late guaranteed 1day air by 10a, or they just want the negative reviews removed?!? I went to a compounding pharmacy, they could not test for efficacy or potency, the pharmacist referred me to the DEA for testing as they have the capability. After the text from Better U yesterday and the Trustpilot email asking for more details, I imagine Better U wants my review removed as there are Zero bad reviews on their website, like the bad reviews others have recently posted on Trustpilot stating the same results.
Please read my review below, it is all true, no misinformation from my side. They don’t want anyone to see what others have also stated, I am not an isolated experience with Better U.
I am not sure what else to tell you. They did text me…asking how my treatments were going and if there is anything they could do to assist? I’ve asked for their assistance numerous times and all I received was a call from a guy who called me a “jerk” for complaining. Please read my “original” updated review.
Where to begin? The Lies? The Profits over patients mantra? The lack of support? It’s everyone else’s fault other than Better U?
Better U has a well designed website, lots of information. You can put a tuxedo on a goat, but it’s still just a goat. Honestly, they have a few employees that I initially believed were working to better the patient experience. I’ve been given excuses, watched and heard Better U place blame on every aspect of their business model on anyone but themselves.
I have endless screenshots and recordings of the misinformation and highly questionable business tactics. When anyone is presented valid information sent from Better U and they lie about their own information?!? WTW?…I promise, their pants are actually not on fire. Just lies. It’s simple…profits over patients.
I’ve been in the medical industry for over 16 years and I know my facts, I have the documented facts and proof of the blatant misinformation provided to me, so much misleading information and facts from the CSRs to whomever…Shame on Better U.
Basically, Better U is a middle man or 3rd party ketamine dealer/broker. I personally received 3 separate confirmations via text and email for the same delivery…1 day guarantee air delivery with the “summer packaging” a cold pack with a label stating “keep refrigerated” and that package arrives 22.5 hrs late and the temp is 82.8 degrees upon arrival. When I advised Better U with photos and specs, oh the temp doesn’t really matter?…Of course search your fav med website and you’ll see, ketamine is a temp controlled medication as are many other meds. But don’t lie to me, place blame and then go back on your word. That is a HUGE red flag. I’ve never been provided more misleading information in my 2-3 months of dealing with Better U, than any company I’ve dealt with in my lifetime.
I’m positive someone with Better U will reply below. With more excuses and nonsense. I have the evidence in hand, everything I have stated is true and factual including all of the documentation to back my statements. And Better U knows this, as I have sent them the proof. They just do not care about the patients as a company…a few of the Better U team I’ve dealt with are awesome and I do believe they want to make a difference in our lives…then (not calling anyone out, he knows his name) flat out lies on a recording regarding the people or person I placed my faith in?!? Really? That’s the gig? Lie on your co workers, throw them under the bus and place blame? That “it’s not our problem” mentality that is really concerning to me. This is life changing medication for many people. We are just credit card numbers to Better U.
I cannot in good conscience, based on the facts and documentation I possess recommend Better U to anyone at this point.
If the people you are attempting to seek help from fails in their mission…it’s about the patient not just profits and Better U overall has completely missed that mark
Response from Better UMay 12, 2025
Hi there,
Thank you for taking the time to share your experience. We’re truly sorry to hear that your expectations weren’t met and appreciate the opportunity to respond with clarity and care.
First, we want to be clear here: Better U is not a pharmacy. We are a mental health clinic offering both telemedicine and in-person care: including holistic psychiatry, talk therapy, and ketamine therapy (in-person and at-home). For at-home treatments, our licensed providers send prescriptions to independent compounding pharmacies. We are not affiliated with or profiting from any specific pharmacy.
That said, you are absolutely welcome to use any compounding pharmacy you prefer. If you’d like your prescription filled locally, we’ll gladly send it there. Our clinical team has worked with hundreds of pharmacies across the country, and based on consistency, quality, third-party testing, and patient feedback, we typically recommend Precision (NY) and Valor (CA): both of which ship nationally with rigorous SOP's and flavor/stability customization.
You’re right that every compounding pharmacy can vary slightly in how medications are compounded, including factors like pH balance and binders. These differences can absolutely affect the patient experience, which is why we remain committed to helping patients navigate those nuances with transparency and flexibility.
We also want to clarify that we submitted a request through Trustpilot for more information so that we can locate your account and address this directly with you. Since the review you posted was anonymous, we aren’t always able to identify the your information or contact you without your help. If you're willing, we’d appreciate the opportunity to work with you to remedy this situation.
We take the storage and shipping of medications seriously and follow up and advocate for you with the pharmacies when concerns arise. While we rely on these third-party pharmacies to manage packaging, shipping, and FDA-compliant storage protocols, we will always advocate for our patients and act when we believe a batch or delivery method may need review.
In addition to pharmacies, FedEx or UPS may from time to time have delays - weather, etc. as anyone who has shipped or received a package from both understand. As we cannot control this, we also will advocate on your behalf if any of those issues arise.
We're especially sorry to hear that a member of our team was disrespectful: that is not acceptable and will be addressed internally. If you could please share your information or contact our office and ask for Thea or Michael, we will address this and make sure this is properly addressed. Our entire mission is based on patient-first care, and it pains us to hear that this wasn’t your experience.
If you’re open to continuing the conversation, we would be glad to work with you on:
Sending future prescriptions to a local pharmacy of your choice,
Adjusting dosage or formulation under clinical supervision,
Reviewing your treatment history to better tailor your plan moving forward,
Better U exists because traditional mental healthcare has let too many people down. We’re trying to change that, but we know we’re not perfect. If you’re still willing, we’d like the chance to make this right, not just for you, but for the integrity of the mission we believe in.
Sincerely,
The Better U Care Team

Avoid Better U – Unsafe, Unresponsive, and Negligent
I purchased an at-home ketamine therapy treatment from Better U, expecting professional support throughout the process. Instead, I found myself completely alone when I needed help the most. Before starting treatment, I had important questions and reached out multiple times, including leaving a message for my assigned therapist. No one responded.
Ketamine therapy is a powerful treatment that requires proper guidance and supervision. The fact that Better U failed to provide the necessary support is not just unprofessional—it is dangerous. Without a reliable point of contact, I felt abandoned and unsure if it was even safe to proceed.
After weeks of silence, they only reached out to me when I demanded a refund, showing that their priority is profit, not patient care. I can’t trust a company that leaves clients in a vulnerable state without assistance. If I had proceeded with the treatment without proper guidance, the consequences could have been severe.
I strongly caution anyone considering Better U—your mental health and safety deserve better. There are other ketamine therapy providers who prioritize patient care over profit. Don’t risk your well-being on a service that does not follow through on its promises.
Response from Better UMar 14, 2025
We are committed to providing comprehensive support and communication throughout the treatment process. Per our program protocols, all patients receive over 10 direct communications via SMS and email, as well as mandatory treatment preparation appointments to ensure they have the necessary guidance, all questions are thoroughly answered and information before beginning therapy. Our support team and integration coaches are available 7 days a week between 10AM-6PM PST.
When someone does not respond to multiple outreach attempts and later requests a refund after receiving all services - while also posting false and misleading statements online, attempting to extort a business for a refund—this is not only unethical but also illegal. We take these matters seriously and stand by the integrity of our program and our dedication to patient care.
We encourage open and honest communication and are always available to address any legitimate concerns through the appropriate channels. Claiming that Better U is "Unresponsive and Negligent" is absolutely untrue.
