I share accounts with my wife and daughter. I added an account for my daughter and wanted her to have access. The amount of paperwork and processing time this required made me want to scream. Now I have to wait for a form in snail mail? What is going on here? Where is the customer service? Seems like customer infuriation to me.

Hi Scott, thank you for sharing your feedback. We understand how frustrating it can be when you're trying to provide account access for a family member and the process feels more complicated and time-consuming than expected. Certain account changes and access requests require additional documentation and verification steps to help protect our members' accounts and personal information, but we recognize that doesn't make the experience any less frustrating. We'd like to learn more about what happened and share your feedback with the appropriate team. Please email your full name and phone number to [email protected], and a member of our leadership team will follow up with you.

I notified BECU of a suspicious deposit…
I notified BECU of a suspicious deposit made to my account, trying to do the right thing. I was told that they would unlock my account so I could get my personal funds minus the fraudulent deposit, that I reported promptly out and relock the account. When I went to the branch the manager basically all but called me a liar and was extremely rude after she shut her door. As to not make a scene infront of other customers. I proceeded to call the customer service number on speaker phone while in her office because I had them put it in there notes what was discussed. The branch manager was very rude to them as well and did nothing to try and help me. After over 2 hours I left and recalled the customer service and the following day was able to get my money out of the account. New accounts where set up and I was assured that my payroll deposit would transfered over to the new accounts for both me and my daughter for the next 30 days giving our employers time to implement our new payroll deposits. On pay day neither showed in our accounts and I was told they where sent back to our employers because there was an error on BECU's part. And now we are being told it will take an additional 10 to 14 days to see our money. We have bills to pay and no ability to pay them because BECU says one thing to appease there customers and does something else. This is not a one time mistake, on there part it has been repeated multiple times within a two week period. Where is the accountability. Now I will be stuck with late fees for my money, I cannot access. I don't know what happened they are NOT the BECU of old.

Couldn’t stop a fraudulent Payment
We have been banking at BECU for over 20 years and previously have been pretty happy with them but we recently discovered a fraudulent payment from our checking/debit account. We alerted them asap and cancelled that debit card. The payment pended for 2 more days and then they let it go through. When we filed a claim, the gal found 2 other smaller payments from the winter. She asked if they should be included and I said, I guess so, we have never bought/purchased from that! Turns out, they we’ve over 60 days old and according to BECU, the government only makes them pay you if filed in the 60 day window. So. They are paying us back the smaller amounts and have denied the $2000.00 one that we caught and tried to stop and then filed for. I’m shocked. Time to find a new credit union that actually will stop payments when we alert them. Geeze.

BECU is blocking me from sending money…
BECU is blocking me from sending money through Zelle. This is for a FUNERAL. The verification process only gives ONE choice and the new makeover sucks, why do you need 2 servers to log in? Then only one choice for verification? This is too many check-ins and does not make me feel any more secure about my account.
If this bank wants to stop people's money, we will withhold and you won't have any money for Wars, so you better get it together and quit targeting people's last names or whatever they said online that doesn't suit your affiliates' political palate. We know about the watchlists, I wouldn't go there with the US having the WORST credit rating in the world. YOU need US more than WE, the People, need YOU.

If there is a minus star
If there is a minus star, I would have given it to BECU. I have sent multiple complaint emails as per their suggestion on the website of messenger. It has been two weeks never heard back from anyone. Yesterday, a representative called with no information in my voicemail with no information. When I returned the call, she left for the day. They only knew she called for a personal loan. I figured out she called to harass me for the payment that I already made on Friday, 7-24-26. I left feedback with another representative, but guess what? She never called back to me. They are only there to harass customers and give them a hard time instead of listening, including their manager team. So disappointed. I would not recommend them to anyone.
The name is wrong. Senzel Ahmadi. Review posted under my dad's name for an unknown reason

Punishing members for life events
Updated to add additional details and recent or not recent activity.
I have been a member for about 20 years and over the past couple years I have experienced some serious issues.
Once the official paperwork was filed with the county regarding my separation and divorce. My transactions with BECU started declining or rejecting for a couple weeks during each submission. When I called customer service I was told they could not see a reason for this to keep happening and asked that I call back in when it happened again. Why are they watching my marriage or legal activity? This impacted bills and my ability to buy food for myself and my son. As long as my accounts are in good standing this should not have happened.
Now my mother passed. I tried to login to her account to make the final payment for her Adult Family Home. Both my sister and I are on her account as co-owners to help her manage her funds as she had dementia. I kept getting an error to verify her account. I called the help desk and explained that I am on her account and also her POA to help manage her funds. I was told her account was locked as they were notified of her death by some agency, not her family, and locked her account. This was also done without a death certificate on file. Talking to the BECU person, who also spoke to her lead, a request needed to be completed to give me access again and it would take 7 days. No death certificate was requested. She completed the form on my behalf and submitted. I was told once this was complete I would be able to view and manage her accounts through my portal since her's was now locked. Not ideal but I can work with that. I called back at the 7th day and was told nothing was submitted and that a death certificate was required. Once received this would take 4-6 weeks for the small team (2-3 person) to process the request. Until then we have to call every time to find out her balance and/or stop in to hopefully pay the appropriate biller. They will not give us the visibility because the POA document is void per their policy at time of death. Nor will they let us close or make any significant withdrawals. They are withholding our mother's money and making their lack of team support our problem.
So 2 different stories in 7 days. I went in to the location to see if I could get a check to pay her ADH. I explained my issue to the clerk who immediatly jumped on the POA train and that I could no longer manage the account. I told her to look at the account and she will see me on the account. After having to get forceful about her looking she eventually did look and saw I was authorized, she processed the check request. Yes, I still had to pay the $6 processing fee because my mother's account is still locked.
Around this time my sister called customer service. She was told a death certificate was required. At this time, she was told the only way to submit was to physically bring it in or fax it. She does not have a lot of free time and after some pushing was told the team would make an exception and allow her to submit via a secured email. She was also told an estate form required. She explained that our mother did not have an estate as she was on DSHS and had limited funds. She also brought up the POA. She never received the email this to submit, nor did she get the form sent to her either. I did receive a form that I complete.
I searched the web to find an email to submit as I do not want to go in due to how all the past conversations have gone and appointments are almost always late. I am stressed, frustrated and resentful at this point and trying to not have direct contact to not make matters worse. I found an email address that said it was for support but the name sounded like social media. I still sent the death certificate as there is no other good option and included some of my frustration and asked if BECU is still collecting interest for my mother's funds and if BECU will pay any late fees. I received a response to contact customer support and that that email was for public relations. No acknowledgement of my concern/issue. I responded asking how do I submit then. So far I have not seen a response.
So at this point the death certificate has not been submitted despite our efforts. We have received different instructions. Spoken to multiple people who do not want to listen and hide behind the small department. I have to question how this department functions if they are constantly being asked what to do. It sounds like this team is understaffed and the others are poorly trained due to the staff needed to call them every time we call to verify what to do. Somehow this staffing issue has become our problem. To add to that they will not help us get the death certificate to them to process and will not acknowledge any of the problems.

All my money goes to interest
I have been a member of BECU for over 10 years, but my entire perspective changed after taking out a personal loan and a credit card with them. They claim to be a member-focused, not-for-profit credit union, but their actual practices feel no different than the most predatory banks.
The interest rates and fees on their lending products are unbelievably high and were not clearly explained upfront. I have paid over $10,000 toward my personal loan and credit card, yet my balances have barely budged—I still owe almost the exact same amount I started with. When I contacted customer service to ask for a detailed breakdown of why my payments are going entirely toward interest rather than the principal balance, they completely failed to provide me with a clear answer. They told me they would send a detailed PDF, but I found out that the document only shows future payments and projections, not what they have actually collected from me. There was no explanation as to why all my money is going toward interest. I actually heard the exact same thing from another BECU client. I am currently auditing my past statements to calculate exactly how much money they have taken from me, and I will be updating this review with the precise figures.
Worse yet, they offer absolutely zero empathy. Instead, they hit me with late fees and pulled money directly from my checking or savings accounts without my explicit permission. To add insult to injury, after taking thousands of dollars from me, they refused a simple request to waive a single $25 late fee.
Do not let their wholesome marketing fool you. They claim to care about the community, but their rates and fees tell a completely different story. I am a busy person, but I will definitely be closing my checking and savings accounts before they take any more unauthorized withdrawals. Save yourself the financial disaster and look elsewhere—there are plenty of other financial institutions that actually care about their customers.

WARNING about Mortgage Loans
Just be aware that the underwriting process is quite slow compared to larger organizations. So if you have an urgent need and are wanting to rate shop, would probably skip out on applying with BECU.
Maybe if you get in the process and have a pre approval letter ahead of time before finding the house you want, then the process may be more smooth in your case.
Lost out on saving few thousand dollars in closing costs due to slow processing, and having to go with a larger bank.
