Tired of seeing two guys raising a child in their commercials!
L.D.
BECU is no longer some little local CU anymore but for some reason they think they can get away with having restrictive hours and technology/apps/web interfaces that are dated and unreliable. Their online banking portal is down more than any other website I've ever seen! They have basically never once notified me of blocking my card, and they have shut my card down mid-vacation, every vacation, no matter what I do. I did finally, for the first time, receive notification of my debit being blocked... via a text from a weird number with a janky URL and words typed with mixed cases, LiKe ThIs. When my card got denied the next day I didn't even connect the text. They recently had a widespread problem with scammers spoofing BECU's number and had big warnings about being skeptical of any contact from BECU every time you logged into your account so that's what I did. If your card is ever blocked due to suspected fraud, their customer service is NOT available 24/7, which is absolutely insane. You're completely SOL if something happens after hours or on a weekend. Their fraud department is entirely handled by a third-party company and the communication between them and BECU is very poor. The fraud department employee was able to tell me more about a BECU-specific policy than the actual BECU employee! The BECU employees I've spoken with over the phone and in person are often snide and condescending, and they lack empathy. I've never experienced that with any other bank. it's almost like they know they can get away with being a little rude to nice people. There have been a few really great ones, though, that went above and beyond. Identity verification leaves much to be desired. There are many more efficient, secure, and convenient verification methods but they choose to ask 20 inane questions in addition to the usuals. I had a joint bank holder removed from my account 10 years ago but "Birthday of joint account holder" still appears as a REQUIRED security question, with MY birthday as the answer. After a stressful experience of having my only available card at the time blocked due to suspected but not actual fraud on a Friday night, then calling on Saturday to be told, by a real person, a BECU employee, that their outsourced fraud dept doesn't work weekends, and because Monday is a holiday I would have to wait until Tuesday to get help.... I'm rethinking where I keep my money!!! 3+ days of being locked out of your own money is pretty insane for a major bank in 2023. Them being available on weekends only for things that make them money says everything you need to know. They aren't willing to invest in quality of life improvements for their customers because they are greedy.

this is not the CU it used to be. soooo fussy about what they will and won't do and sometimes service reps. are or lazy to find the answer an unusual question. one in a while I get a GOLDEN, SUPER CAPABLE person on the phone, like female DESI, so that's why I have not dropped BECU.

BECU is pretty great, on a day to day banking situation. But when you need to contact them things will go sour. Good luck. Getting through to customer service is an act of God. If, after 30 minutes or an hour or never, they pick up the phone (cause you can't message them and they have limited hours for contact), then you will probably fill in a form and have to call back when they lose your form and you have to start over again. So, fraud wins because my bank wasn't there for me (more than once, super frustrating). Another annoyance of BECU has been the left and right arms don't work together. I had a lot of cash (e.g. hundreds of thousands) in my account but couldn't get a housing loan response, so I went to another lender and got one fast and with zero problems. Why couldn't my own bank do this for me? And don't even get me started about the Zelle integration issues. I'm getting agro just thinking about all the problems I've had at BECU. So, ya, there you go. First had experience talking right here.
