Careful with these people they will not help you when you really need them. I needed a simple document from them and they denied my request. Also, it was very hard to communicate with their back office, and they took days to respond. BECU is terrible in my experience.

If I were anyone looking for an account…
If I were anyone looking for an account to open DON'T open one here. Every time I try to use my account I have to recertify the account and wait for 3 to 5 days to get the verification to go through. Then theres always an issue with withdrawal also. This is the worst bank I have ever used. I would not suggest even an enemy to use this bank. I hardly ever write a review but I am at my wits end with all the crap and drama they do. Nothing but one problem after another. Don't do it ever. This bank is chaos and drama and no one needs this kind of problems.

While applying for a HELOC
While applying for a HELOC, BECU used online, outdated, unofficial pictures to determine they cannot continue with the loan.
Stating the house does not meet federal loan req. regarding the awning. It was mentioned, documented, sent and received the awning in question has met all standards for FHA & Conventional loans which are federal. Furthermore the awning has been inspected and approved by a WA Engineer with L&I.
BECU apparently does not follow equal opportunity banking with their loans.

You might as well go with a big bank as…
You might as well go with a big bank as their local friendly schtick isnt backed by action.
BECU froze my account due to suspected fraud, no problem. However the only acceptable dicument accepted by the fraud department to reinstate was a physical social security card. Mine was out of state at another home and not readily accessible. So I am left without my primary account, low on cash and needing to fly out of state to get my card. During this time medication prescriptions were denied.
The lack of imagination and flexibility is inconsiderate and unacceptable. Surely there is some way to prove I am me some other way.
It boggles the mind that I can get multiple jobs, a passport, vote, get loans, be solicited by BECU for loans without showing a social security card but because some drone in fraud prevention asks, I'm out of money with no recourse.
This behavior is unacceptable and demostrates that they really aren't that interested in being a community minded anything. Might as well go with a big bank if you are going to get screwed anyway. They can go to hell

CEO and leadership need training on inclusivity
The main issue with becu is their leadership and the ceo who actively discriminates against marginalized communities that do not fit their narrative. If you are Jewish, disabled, autistic, Christian, Catholic, or heterosexual, then you do not meet their qualifications for being promoted. Furthermore, you will not be treated with respect, and you will be blamed for the BIPOC communities' oppression. The CEO has informed all staff that the BIPOC community comes before everyone else, even though there are many marginalized people that do not fit into the BIPOC community. This has created a hostile environment for employees and members. In fact, the CEO has made sure the income becu makes goes into the pockets of black owned businesses, even though there are other marginalized communities that could use support too. What does this mean? Becu leadership and CEO are actively discriminating against people, they are using funds for the BIPOC community only, they are committing discrimination by telling employees BIPOC will be given preference for promotions, and committing racism against those who are not BIPOC. My recommendation is for leadership and the CEO to be trained on racism, inclusiveness and belonging, biases, and discrimination and put policies and procedures in place that ensures everyone has an equal chance.

We are committed to creating a workplace and member experience that is rooted in respect, equity, and opportunity for everyone inclusive of their backgrounds, identities and lived experiences. Another reason im closing my account…
Another reason im closing my account here is they lie... my account clearly says I have x amount available but can't use it or access it... last week couldn't use my card to pay T-Mobile... frankly nothing but problems here... not happy in the slightest... and have screenshot from in app messages saying I can't access my available funds...
Response from BECUApr 3, 2026
Captain, we’re sorry to hear about your experience and understand how frustrating it is when available funds don’t seem accessible—especially when it impacts important payments like your mobile service. That’s not the experience we want members to have, and we appreciate you sharing what you’re seeing in the app.
Because account access issues can be specific and time‑sensitive, we’d like to have this reviewed by a member of our leadership team.
Please email your full name and best phone number to [email protected], and someone will follow up to learn more about what’s happening and next steps.
Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback—it helps us identify where we need to look closer.

No longer doing Loan slips for car…
No longer doing Loan slips for car loans with No notice and make it extremely difficult to make payments otherwise when I tried. Update to their reply. Its really not options if NONE of them work or are Very difficult to setup and your systems don't work how BECU says they supposedly works. They don't, I tried, just extremely disappointed that the only effective way of making my car payment has been made obsolete.
Response from BECUMar 26, 2026
Hi K — thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We understand how disruptive it can be when a familiar payment option changes, and you’re correct that BECU no longer offers loan payment coupons.
To help members continue making payments with ease, BECU provides several alternative loan payment options, including online, mobile, phone, and third‑party methods. You can view all available options here:
