Banfield Wellness Plans a Ripoff
They are, in a word, a total rip off and should be barred from doing business in this industry. In the fine print of the Wellness plan contract, they say you can't cancel because the services you receive under the Plan are "discounted" and the retail value of your used services must be paid in full if your pet dies when you request to cancel or you can just continue paying for your dead pet until the 12 month contract is up. It's cruel and unusual punishment for a family that suffers the loss of a pet to continue to have to pay the wellness plan post-mortem. Their "discounted" fees for services rendered are outrageous, and the retail fess when the calculate that to determine how much you've "used" of the Plan benefits are nearly 2x as much as any reputable vet. So, adding insult to injury, when the pet dies, like our dog just did, we paid $300 for them to put her to sleep and we get to still keep paying the rest of the 3 months on her Plan at $54/mo according to their rules. Our dog did not even use the main service that is the most costly one on the 12-month plan, the dental, but yet Banfield needs to collect their extra $150 to make themselves richer. Caution to anyone thinking of using them or the Plan: find another provider.

HORRIBLE customer service
HORRIBLE customer service. I have been on wellness plan for years and today when I tried to cancel plan they are refusing because they said my mom was the one who signed contract. I am my dog's owner, account holder, and the one who pays for plan. After going back and forth my mom tries to call deals with hold times. I try to use their "super easy" chat and again told call 888 number and basically hung up on via chat. Will NEVER recommend them.

We took our pet in after being groomed
We took our pet in after being groomed. He sounded like he had kennel cough and we explained that to the vet. We had a video of the dog coughing and she was not interested. She ran blood and everything was ok. Then she insisted we get xrays at the the tune of Approx $400. This was on a Tuesday and by Friday I still never heard anything about the results. I called Friday and insisted I get an answer. She said everything was ok and she was leaning to kennel cough. They just do test to make money. There was no need for those xrays. She should have started him on medication and then if not better in a few days come back. It cost us a total of $498.00 plus we have the OWP plan. Rip off.

Do not trust Banfield
Do not trust Banfield. Took my dog for an rabies and a scratch.$538 dollars later. Put you on unnecessary monthly plan($568). They did tests and stuff on my dog I did not know about. They are u me truthful and try to get you to join a 12 month plan. Pricing outrageous. Stay away

DO NOT SIGN UP FOR A WELLNESS PLAN
DO NOT SIGN UP FOR A WELLNESS PLAN! We had to put my 14 year old dog down and we have to pay $300 to cancel the plan, or wait until the contract expires in 6 months. I understand that its a contract but the fact that they have no exceptions for when your dog dies is unbelievable. We have to keep paying for a wellness plan for my dead dog and its honestly heartbreaking. I will be telling everyone I know to not use this company because its not worth the heartache of seeing a charge on my card for my dead dog for the next six months.

If there were a Zero star option
If there were a Zero star option, I would choose that one. I was a customer for about 8 years. Recently I took my baby girl in, for pain in her left leg, they said it was her aging, and prescribed medication. About 2 weeks ayer took her back in, this time ; they convinced me to upgrade plan to an 80.00 something one, they would give her anesthesia to take X-rays. I was also charged 120.00 for sending X-rays out to be read by someone else. On the day of X-rays Doctor told me it looks like osteoarthritis in her leg. Medication was again. This time her pain was more severe and she cried in pain, she could not get comfortable. I was told to give her two pills instead of one. When results came back, Doctor did report noted a aggressive lesion in left pelvic area, which was cancer. I made the decision to euthanize my baby girl. I called to cancel account, since no longer needed. I was told , I still owe them money , about 780.00, that I could pay it now or they will keep withdrawing monthly fee, until paid up. I find this inhumane, looks like money wins, not lost family members. Don’t use this place, get dog insurance instead. For the folks with good reviews, wait until it’s your go. Might write up a different one.

Would not recommend.
I did my research on many local vet offices in my area when I first got my puppy 9 weeks ago. Banfield pet hospital was the most recommended from friends and family. Online reviews were hard to judge because of there being so many locations.
I would like to say that everytime I leave the office I am very frustrated with my decision to start a puppy wellness plan with them. When my puppy was hit by another dog, there was not an opening for WEEKS. When we came in for our wellness check they gave me attitude because I did not bring my puppy to them when he got bit (we took him to a family owned vet who made time for him that day). They also acted as if they knew nothing about him being bit although I called multiple Banfields In my area to find an opening.
Next, they do not allow anyone back with your animal (in our area). I do not appreciate that I am a paying customer monthly and the rest of our area is open without masks, but the “doctor” gets to decide if they want paying customers back. Honestly think they just are using Covid as an excuse to not have us back there so they can handle our puppy however they want.
This last visit our puppy came out of the appointment excited to see us and they pulled him back to the back (unwillingly) because they “forgot to do one more thing”. Are you kidding me? Additionally, he had a horrible fishy smell from his butt that he only makes when he is extremely scared. Usually we only smell it when he is scared being in a moving sound. Which tells me he was scared enough back there that he secreted the oily smell.
The list goes on. I don’t like that there was a couple waiting for their dog and the doctor came out to talk to them with us right next to them and we overheard them telling the couple that there dog may have cancer. That is an intimate conversation and it should NOT have occured in front of other customers. Another reason why families should be allowed back with their animals and be able to have individual conversations with the doctors. We relocated ourselves to give them the privacy they deserved. I would mot recommend a plan with banfield.
