This company doesn’t even deserve one Star. When my friends dog died he called Banfield Pet Hospital to tell them and take his pet off the insurance but after waiting for two hours to speak to a customer service assistant he was told he would have to pay a big termination fee by an extremely unsympathetic, rude, cold and soulless person over the phone. She Didn’t even care that he had just lost his dog of 13 years, the rude individual was just reading him off a script about how they will charge him for taking the dog off the policy - no heart or care. He’s been with them for 6 years and also has another dog in the policy but that didn’t matter to them. Surely death is an exception when you need to end a policy? Very inconsiderate and money grabbing establishment with shameful customer service! Should be shut down!

I took two of my dogs to Banfield, off Mercantile Ave in Albuquerque, this month for dental work. Both boys needed extractions and both vets were great about calling me and letting me know what was up. I paid my bill and started my hour long trek home to Santa Fe. A dental cleaning alone starts at $700 - $1000 in Santa Fe so I took them to Banfield because they start at half as much. Well…you get what you pay for. The whole ride home, Wyatt kept winning and licking his leg. I was driving and couldn’t really turn to see but I figured he was just ouchy from the tooth extraction. When we got home, blood was pouring, literally, from his leg. I immediately pulled the plastic and bandage off to find the catheter was still in him. I pulled it off as best I could and thankfully that stopped the bleeding. He later puked a bunch of blood. Now I am at the emergency vet because I am worried part of the catheter may still be in there. I sent pictures to Banfield but no one has responded. To add a bit of insult to injury, when I picked them up, they gave me meds for Wyatt but told me Albie did not need any. About halfway home, they call me to tell me they had forgotten to give me Albie’s meds…meds I specifically asked about and was told I didn’t need. I don’t care how good your doctors are or how friendly the staff is. If this is the standard of care, overlooking something as basic as taking a catheter out before you let a patient go home…I can’t in good faith recommend this place to any one, and I am never coming back. I’ll save my pennies and take them somewhere they will be looked after with a little more care. The doc put it on the staff, and I get it. But they are also your patients, and if your staff is not up to par, it your job to check on your patients before you discharge them. I am beyond upset. This sort of stuff, and after a $2000 bill, is woefully unacceptable. They’re acting like this was no big deal so I can’t help but think things like this happen often at this clinic.

I will never take another animal to this corporation. It is basically an overpriced vaccine clinic. All they want is your money. Any time my dog was sick they could never see her and I was left scrambling for another vet. My pet passed away and she had a wellness plan. Guess what? I’m still have to pay it until the plan expires. What crap and and to me it shows all they want is your money.

Banfield does not care. I have wasted around 800$ for a puppy wellness plan and these company can’t even give me the courtesy of upholding my appointments. This pricing does not cover her spay, either. The receptionists and vets alike are very wishy-washy on what is and isn’t covered by the health plan. They keep saying something different every time. They told me leptospirosis (1st vax) was covered by my dog’s plan and then it wasn’t and they tried to charge me almost 100$ for the vet visit. They said they could arrange to pick up my pup from the pets hotel in the same petsmart and that they would send the invoice with my dog. They never went to get her and didn’t call me or anything. I went there in person and gave my name, phone number and the name of my dog AND her appointment time. They confirmed with me to my face that they could go get her and complete the appointment. They didn’t. Heck, the location I was going to CLOSED DOWN because all of the staff but a few QUIT and they waived only one of three months’ payments for a health plan I couldn’t even use! They told me to go to another location but they were flooded with customers from the same location I go to. My dog was almost killed in a dog fight and I had to go to a completely different vet because they weren’t even open. Not even for re-checks or follow ups either. On top of that they couldn’t even get the reason for the appointment correct. I wanted her bordetella shot updated and they kept putting it down as a checkup for alternate issues that I have gone to other vets for because I’m tired of this. They aren’t helpful in emergencies either. Their vet chat misinformation almost cost my puppy her life, saying that (what later turned out to be furonuclosis) was a hotspot even when I described bloody pustules to the person on the other end. My dog was incredibly sick and I had to take her elsewhere because they wouldn’t give me the time of day or even out me on a cancellation list. The wording they use when they sign you up for health plans is deceptive and predatory and they do not at all explain to you that canceling the plan, even if your animal dies- costs the entirety of the plan’s money right then and there. If not they will just keep charging you! And by the way, they set those health plans to auto renew and it is like pulling teeth to get answers from anybody. They tell you to email the banfieldcares email but I am wholeheartedly convinced that nobody reads them. I tried to send five or six emails to them before calling and being told to email them and I got mad. They transferred me to a man who told me if I wanted to cancel my plan two months in I would owe them about 700$. 800$ for puppy shots. Absolute scam. This company is predatory and I will never recommend it to anyone. My experience with them has been nothing short of infuriating.

I got an email today that told me the wellness plan was going up six dollars and I did the math out and I’m paying a couple extra hundred dollars a year for this plan and my dog doesn’t really require anymore so I called and spoke to an ignorant guy on the phone and he charged me $100 to cancel and I am less than thrilled and extremely disappointed. I also have nothing bad to say about banfield at this time but the Owp and their “rules” is completely ridiculous.
