Banfield did the right thing after all
We were with Banfield for our cat since October 2007. In December 2020, even though we had been paying extra every month for dental, the vet recommended that we remove that coverage because of her age (15). Therefore, even though we had paid for it for that year, she did not get her dental cleaning. Then, when we brought her for her check up in June, we were told she had a tooth that had to be removed so it was suggested we again upgrade the plan to include dental, which we did. When we brought her back 2 weeks later for the surgery the vet told us tests showed that it was likely her heart couldn’t take the anesthesia so they did not do the surgery. She stopped eating due to the dental issues and we had to make the heartbreaking decision to euthanize her a few days later for which we were charged $136. Despite the fact that they could not do the surgery Banfield said they would not cancel the new plan because, they said, the tests they did were billed to the new plan. They said all they would do was remove the last 4 months of the plan. In contrast, we had just bought a bag of prescription cat food from chewy before this happened. When I asked them if we could return it, not only did they immediately refund us $76 for the food (without asking for it back) but they sent us flowers and a sympathy card. In the future, we will definitely be chewy customers, but will never go back to Banfield. UPDATE: I just received a call from Banfield. They told me that they have reviewed our case and have decided to cancel the contract balance based on the issues. We were pleasantly surprised and very appreciative.
