Surprise fee buried in footnotes — poor CX
I used backgroundchecks.com and was hit with a random $98 fee I didn’t expect. When I contacted support, I got a templated reply pointing to a footnote where this was “disclosed.” That notice is buried and non-obvious. If a fee meaningfully changes the price, surface it where decisions are made—use a clear pop-up or inline alert before checkout, not fine print after the fact. The product may work, but surprise fees erode trust. Please make pricing transparent and unavoidable to miss. Until then, this feels like a gotcha, not a customer-first experience.
