We're really sorry to hear you had such a frustrating experience, and we appreciate you taking the time to share your feedback. To clarify a few points: Artkive’s process does involve two payments. The initial $39 covers the Artkive Box and shipping materials, while the second payment, based on the number of pieces sent and any products ordered, is invoiced after professional photography and editing are completed. Before photography begins, every customer receives multiple reminders (including emails and a QR code on the order form) linking to our pricing slider, which shows exactly how costs scale based on image count and book choices. We understand how disappointing it can feel to receive a higher invoice than expected, especially without seeing a preview first. Because of the extensive labor involved in photographing and editing each piece, we do require that the invoice be paid before creating a digital preview. However, nothing is printed or finalized until you've reviewed and approved the layout. The minimum you mentioned reflects the cost to photograph and digitize 286 individual pieces of artwork. We always provide the option to proceed with a book or to only pay for digitization. We never want anyone to feel surprised, and we take transparency seriously which is why our pricing is listed at checkout, in order confirmations, on our website, and in every box.
