Called on the phone and got an appointment very quickly. Serviceman showed up right on time and performed a quick but thorough analysis. His assumption that the compressor was dead proved to be true later when I tried to replace some electrical parts myself. Yep, compressor dead. So it was good to pay the diagnosis fee, at least I know I can put the ice maker to rest and stop trying to salvage it. Very courteous - will use again! I didn't feel like I was being lied to, which is great.
