I reached out to Apex Translations due to overwhelmingly positive reviews on line. I needed a very simple immunization chart translated for my son, which involved translation of two full sentences. The rest of the document were phrases and abbreviations of different types of vaccines. Price was high, but I equated it with quality and proceeded with the order. The first draft came back to me within 3 days. Translation was similar in quality to google translate. Here's an example "Chart to be filled out at a preventive treatment institution when child is a new patient". Also, instead of using abbreviations for vaccines (as stated on the chart) abbreviations of viruses were used incorrectly on multiple occasions. I sent the document back with my comments and suggestions for changes. The document came back to me revised with my comments implemented but I noted new mistakes of vaccine abbreviations. I sent the draft back for the second time and asked to fix the sloppy formatting. I didn't hear back. Several days went by and I called the Apex project manager. No apologies were made and I was told that my new comments were implemented and document was shipped to me (without my final approval). Tracking number was provided at that time per my request. Two days later it arrived in the mail. All corrections were made but formatting remained sloppy. I did not have a positive experience with Apex Translations and the quality of service does not justify high price. When you are dealing with medical documents and adoption agencies, every little detail counts. I cannot risk counting on Apex to care about the details.
Response from Apex Translations, Inc.Jun 30, 2020
Thank you for providing your feedback. We are sorry to hear about your dissatisfaction about your interaction with Apex. Please allow us to address your points individually: 1. Use of Google machine translation, quality of the translation/formatting: Your project was completed by our lead linguist for this language pair who is also quite familiar with the subject matter. That said, in reviewing your quality concerns, it does appear that our word and translation choices were not optimal in a couple of places. We sincerely apologize for that. We have communicated your improvements to our linguist and reviser to help avoid these mishaps in the future. Regarding the formatting: The formatting of your one-page document is quite intricate and complex and about as good as can be supported using MS Word. Any further improvements would involve using Desktop Publishing software. 2. High price: It seems that our pricing ended up on the high side compared to the other companies you queried. Our market research suggests that our pricing is approximately in the 40 percentile compared to other ISO-certified translation agencies. 3. Interaction with our project manager/ schedule delay: We reviewed your project internally here and it seems that in the heat of the battle, our customer-led attitude may not have been reflective of our standards we seek to employ. In light of the issues you experienced and the time it took to summarize your feedback to us, we would like to discount your project by 20%. A credit will be issued to your credit card account. The Apex team
