Timeline of EventsWarning: A.O. Smith Refused to Honor Their Own System Transfer
Timeline of Events: A.O. Smith Warranty Dispute Update -A.O. Smith contacted me And they are going to horror the warranty transfer that the representative said because I had the confirmation number he gave me. They said it’s not their policy to transfer warranties, but they would honor what the representative said even though it was the wrong information. I am a happy camper. Not out $ and a defective unit. Moved to 1 star to 4 star! January 7, 2026 (10:00 AM): I contacted A.O. Smith customer service to inquire whether moving a gas water heater from one property to another would void the warranty. The representative explicitly stated the warranty would remain in effect. She collected my personal information—including my name, address, email, and phone number—to process a formal "site transfer" in their database and provided me with a reference number. Based entirely on this corporate authorization, I invested significant funds into vehicle delivery and professional plumber installation at the new property. July 2026 (7 Months Later): The water heater required service, and I called to file a warranty claim. The initial customer service representative located my updated account information and address in their system. However, I was then informed that the warranty was non-transferable and the claim was denied. When I escalated the call to a manager, the manager claimed they had no record of my January 7th phone call, asserting that "everything is recorded." This statement directly contradicts the fact that the previous representative had just successfully located my transfer information in their database. I would never have incurred the heavy costs of relocation and installation if A.O. Smith's representative had not explicitly authorized the transfer and updated my account.
