Moved from Texas to MA. Movers arrived, and price was over double what was quoted. We had no choice to accept to keep time to closing house. Received 2 weeks later than quoted, most boxes crushed things damaged. Claims process is confusing, and very little support. Edit 9/17/2026. After this review a representive called me for a few weeks to see how "to make this better". I tried to work them, they would call during work hours but I spoke with them at least 5 times. I felt like they were trying to pin the blame one without saying it every call as they kept saying the price the day if was part of the quote process. My stuff was packed up and on the driveway ready to go. We had a phone video walk through for the intial quite. Supposedly a claim was put in but I have never heard back from them after this. Still very much unresolved and unresponsive.

I see a lot of one star reviews, and many common themes. -They will hold your property as long as they like, regardless of the "promises"/lies that you'll hear from sales. We were in an empty house for over two weeks after the date that was agreed upon months in advance -They will pay no claims for damages -They will say anything to get rid of you -They subcontract all the loaders in many states -They are just plain unclear about how the work and price things. -Despite dozens of promises, they've done nothing. Not even formally apologize (one employee did in a way)

This company is a broker who will give you a price for your move, collect one-half up front, and then sub out your move to a company you would not hire yourself in a million years. The sub collects the other 50% before they will deliver your furniture. American Van Lines keeps the 50% up front money for doing very little except having a phone number and pretty pictures of trucks that will not show up at your house. My experience was terrible. Nobody showed up on my moving date and numerous calls to American were unanswered or not helpful. I was lied to repeatedly by American employees who told me movers were on the way. Movers did not show up until two and a half days later and they were terrible. I would never have hired them myself. Be very careful in hiring movers. I was fooled by fancy adds and pictures. This is not what you get from American. You get horrible movers who do the job for half of the price you pay and that is exactly what you get – half of the job you expect.

WORST MOVE OF OUR LIFETIME (WE'RE in our 50's)! CONSUMER BEWARE. THEY ARE OVERPRICED AND due to their poor planning and logistics showed up with a truck too small. They did not own the error but said it would be two weeks and cost me an additional $3500 after we had already paid them $12k!! Noone was apologetic. Their system is broken and talking to the driver this has helped multiple times. They damaged our furniture (tvs, lamps, dressers, desks, tables. They put things back together and stripped our furniture so now we may never get some things back apart. They hired ALL subcontracted help except the driver. The team that showed up at our new home through things everywhere and did not handle anything with TLC. NEVER HAVE WE EVER HAD SO MUCH BROKEN SCRATCHED DAMAGED goods. We were so DONE with the company in the end we didn't even want to file a claim... We just want to shout from the mountain tops how horrible they were on pickup and delivery. WE HAVE NEVER MOVED WITH THIS HORRIBLE OF A CREW. SUBCONTRACTED HELP IS NOT BACKGROUND CHECKED.

I am very dissatisfied with my experience with American Van Lines. I booked primarily because I was told by the sales representative that delivery within 3–5 days would “not be a problem”, and that although a wider delivery window would appear on the contract, my items would likely arrive within the first few days. This was not the case. Communication throughout the process was poor and disorganized. My name was misspelled repeatedly despite clearly spelling it out on the phone, and it remains incorrect in their records. When I contacted different representatives with questions, I was repeatedly referred to someone else, with no clear ownership of my move. On pickup day, I was given an ETA of 12–3 PM, but the movers did not arrive until 7 PM, with minimal communication. One of my mattresses was also forgotten. During the move, customer service representative Deanna was consistently dismissive and appeared annoyed when I asked basic questions about delivery timing and mover location. I am a single mother with a toddler who had just started a new job, and we were without our belongings for two weeks. I never received an apology, and responses to my questions often took more than 24 hours. The only positive part of this experience was the actual moving crew—Carlos and his colleague—who were kind and professional. Unfortunately, based on the lack of communication, accuracy, and reliability, I would not recommend American Van Lines, especially to anyone needing delivery by a specific date or who values clear communication.

Update 2.3.2026: This company continues to harass me. They stated in writing that they admit they were unable to provide me with service, and offered a full refund, ONLY IF I signed a non-disclosure (gag order) and removed my negative reviews about them. I called them out for "extortion" since the main point was that they admitted to providing no service. Since then, it has been a series of ongoing threats. This company is run by horrible people. Look at the BBB reviews. That will tell you everything you need to know. I was not alone in this experience with them. Absolute fraudsters. This company literally STOLE $5200 from me, and did absolutely nothing DO NOT TRUST A WORD THEY SAY.

If you are moving more than 50 miles, find another moving company. American VL got everything wrong from quoting, to packing, loading, transit, and unloading. They didn't do an inventory when we solicited a quote, when we called to confirm the week before they move, they had a half a truck to move our goods, the packers got there late, neither the pack or load were done on time, and then they tried to ask for full payment when they hadn't even delivered the truckers. In addition they had to subcontract to an "independent" packer and mover because they didn't have a truck they could route to our house even though we had this reserved for over a month.

They under quoted us over 2k but at this point we had no choice but to pay because the movers were already there. It took them about it a week and a half to deliver our things and we noticed several of our items were broken. They were not very helpful in regards to under quoting us and our stuff went through way too many people.
