From quote through still waiting for my belongings (picked up Oct 28th and they THINK it might get here Nov 26th but they aren't sure) has been a disorganized nightmare. Save yourself the headache and go with Two Men and a Truck (who got another much later pickup already to me and I'm still waiting on American Van Lines for any kind of meaningful update. They have no idea where the driver is and they were 15 hrs late for my pick up and I've had to call to tell them their drivers kept not showing up which delayed my move, flight, and MANY other things that has cost me so much money. And they offered a $30 credit! Total regret using them.

This company screwed me from the start
This company screwed me from the start, they gave me a price and then once at my home they upped the price, the reason is that they would have to pack my washer and dryer, now the thing is I used to be a mover, and there is not anywhere or any company that have moving boxes for a washer and dryer, but I paid it because I had to get out of my home, then there was the 2 1/2 weeks that it took for my stuff to get there, well when it arrived, the washer and dryer that I had to pay 500 extra to pack, guess what they were damage, scratched and dented, my fridge got dented and my dresser was scratched from the tape, then there is the stolen items, for I had around two grand in tools and they were my way of making extra money for myself, well I guess someone wanted it more than I did, because they took them, yeah that right every single one and this company wanted me to file a claim stating the weight and receipts , they were trying to pay me by weight which means that if they are paying 60 cents a pound and I lose a 400 dollar item that weight 10 pounds, then I would be paid 6 dollars for that item, I did not even want to play that game with them, so with the price change and stolen items and the damage goods made me realize that I should have sold all my stuff and just waited until I got were I was going to buy it all over again, it's been around 6 months now and I am still not over it. My mistake was I thought that this was North America Moving company not American Van Lines, a costly mistake.

American Van lines will steal your money
American Van lines confirmed my pick up and move date this week. They called me tonight at 6pm EST, (two days before the scheduled move confirmed but them) that the pick up date has been moved up to literally tomorrow morning at 8am. AVL is contracting out people to disassemble my treadmill which was coordinated for tomorrow evening. We also coordinated help to take TV’s off the wall which is now scheduled after the truck is supposed to be here so I cannot move my TV’s. They said the driver is coming in the morning and if we can’t accommodate the new time, we will lose our move spot and deposit. They want signed contracts but won’t call their own customer back. I would not recommend this moving company at all - super shady and unprofessional. If you pay someone thousands of dollars to move across the country go elsewhere

Awful experience from beginning to end
I have moved many times across the US with various moving companies and the most recent experience from Colorado to Georgia with yours has been the worst by far. Here are just a few specifics of our experience- 1) drivers were set to show up for pick on a Monday - they showed up Sunday morning, 2) your representative did a virtual walkthrough of items and provided a quote that ended up needing to be modified by thousands of dollars while half of my belongings were already packed 3) no status updates were provided at any time for pickup or delivery 4) my home was damaged in the process and I had to make extensive repairs to a wall the night before closing, 5) the movers were inconsiderate of dirt damage to carpets and used our furniture and belongings, 6) when we called to inquire about drop-off (again no one was keeping us informed) we were told that if delivery couldn’t happen because of the hurricane, that it would occur a week later and beyond the contractually designated date, and 7) when calling in to ask to speak to a supervisor we were consistently told a manager wasn’t available. Awful experience from beginning to end.

Terrible experience with American Van Lines
We had a horrific experience with American Van Lines! If I could give zero stars I would have. We went with American - though they were more expensive than other moving companies - because of the great customer service and level of service we were promised for our move. The moment our contract was signed and the deposit paid, American told us they were no longer able to do our move and outsourced us to a "trusted vendor" days before our cross-country move. The vendor they contracted out was late, rude, hired questionable locals to help, and provided a level of service that was not commensurate with what I had anticipated receiving from American. Absolutely awful experience.

RUN.
In short, RUN.
I have three main complaints about this company.
1) You're not necessarily hiring who you think.
American Van Lines did not have a smaller truck available on the date of my cross country move despite paying extra and booking it several months in advance. The company then contracted out my entire pack/move to another company called JT Express Moving without my knowledge. This caused major communication issues once our truck broke down. Customer service at American Van Lines kept telling us specific days our truck would arrive without communicating with the company who actually owned the truck. We we're told our truck would arrive Saturday, Tuesday, and Wednesday forcing us to rebook rental cars, hotels, and flights three different times. The truck did not arrive until Thursday.
2) The cost of our move was substantially under estimated and the full price was not given until the morning of the move
I believe this is an intentional bait and switch tactic. I went through the entire booking process on the phone which involved telling the company what furniture we had in each room of our apartment. They only asked about furniture items and pictures larger than 2 feet. The estimate process took about 45 minutes. I was quoted approximately $6,000 to pack and move our belongings. On the morning of the move the crew showed up and checked the furniture in each room, everything was accounted for to my knowledge. I then got a call informing me the crew could not start the move until I signed the new estimate now at about $9,300. I was told the extra $3,300 was for unexpected packing supplies and that I may get refunded the difference if they didn't use everything. With everything scheduled around moving on this day there was nothing I could do but sign the new estimate. I, days later, was told it actually had nothing to do with packing supplies and the extra charge was for plastic bins we used to store our clothes in.
3) The crew hired for the pack and move was not efficient
They arrived at 8am and by the time we left town at 8pm they had not fully cleared out a single room of our 1,300 square foot apartment. The crew member in charge only spoke fluent Bosnian and we could not communicate with him except through Google translate which created great confusion.
This does not even elaborate on the poor customer service I've experienced since expressing my displeasure with this company. I would strongly encourage anyone looking to hire movers to pass on American Van Lines.

Dont use.
They tried to charge me more and ended leaving import things behind. 8 days later and still don’t know when it will be delivered and no one is returning my calls

Horrible experience
Horrible experience. Hired American Van Lines and they subbed the move out to Shield Moving & Storage: two people in a rented truck. One of the men didn’t speak a word of English and only communicated to the other in Spanish.
Multiple items of furniture are damaged and parts are missing. Among many other things, the mover damaged my new French door refrigerator when trying to get it out the front door. At one point, he asked me if I wanted the house or the refrigerator. I made it very clear during the order phase that I had a large refrigerator and was never instructed to have the doors removed prior to the move.
My microwave was not moved and remains at the old house. On delivery day, the mover said that he remembered it when he got to the hotel the day of the move.
They pulled the veneer off of an antique secretary. If they would have just given me the piece of wood that they pulled off, I could have attempted to mend it. Instead, they said that they didn’t do it.
My furniture was packed tightly and carelessly into the truck without sufficient padding between items. It’s clear to me that this carelessness caused much of the damage of my wooden furniture. Is it customary to set items on their end?
Yes, I have photographs of the damage to multiple items. The refrigerator is the worst.
As for me, I will never use this company again, and neither will any of my family or friends.
