After years of unfiled tax returns, I owed the IRS over $30,000. A friend told me about Alleviate Tax Services. He told me they would negotiate a reduction in my taxes owed through IRS programs. I spoke with a representative who assured me he could help. He conducted an initial interview. He put me on a brief hold. He came back on the phone. Told me I was qualified for the program. Then requested me to pay $500 to enter the next phase. I was asked multiple questions related to my financial history. After speaking with the representative, I was told the fee for resolving my tax debt is 13,000. I would need to be preapproved by their finance company. I asked them what happens if the debt owed is not resolved. He assured me it was not a concern. "Our company has a proven success rate in removing 70% to 80% of your tax debt". He coerced me into taking out a loan to secure their services. Told to submit tax transcripts and financial statements, I was assigned a case manager to review and prepare my file. I received a message from a representative working on my case, stating it had been resolved. She requested that I contact her. She told me that I was not eligible for any of the IRS programs related to my income. I now owe the IRS 49,000 with a monthly payment of $667 for 6 years. Mind you, more than the original amount owed. As well as the company fee for helping me. Still owe the company $13000 installment of $380 a month for 5 years, for nothing. Almost 1,000 a month. As a 2-time Cancer Survivor. This is a nightmare. BUYER BE AWARE!!! DON'T DO IT!!!

Hired them over two years ago... still nothing! Money down the drain. No negotiations - communication deplorable. Constantly asked for same docs over and over - no actual work product ever seen - same regurgitated answers from case managers. STEER CLEAR from this company - you would be far better off on your own.

They claim to be tax experts and professionals, and claim if you try to negotiate with the IRS without their representation you’re fighting a losing battle. They claim they can help you save thousands, and will use scare tactics such as the IRS freezing your accounts, sending officers after you, etc. After almost an entire year and $11k in fees, they did what my CPA could’ve done for $500. Do yourself a huge favor and avoid them like the plague. Update: Alleviate Tax wanted an additional $8000 to “help” me with my 2024 taxes. Please, do not give them a single penny. What they do for you is something you can easily do with any cpa for a fraction of the cost. I wish I could give them less than a 1 start review. They deserve to be out of business. They prey on people’s lack of knowledge and scare them into thinking the IRS will ruin them if you don’t hire them right away.

This company is a scam. From the beginning until I finally bailed after paying them $6,500.00. They did nothing. I would work with one person for a couple of months. That person needed information. I would provide it. Then, I was passed to the next individual who wanted to start at the beginning, gathering information. After I was passed to the 4th person I had enough. Do not waste your time or your money.

I cannot express how disappointed I am with this tax service. I trusted them to handle my taxes, but they completely dropped the ball. The entire process dragged on for over a month, and I was stuck in the "tax preparer" phase the whole time without any real updates or progress. It felt like they were just stalling. When I finally realized this was going nowhere, I requested a refund for the services they failed to deliver. To my shock and frustration, they refused to issue any refund — even though I paid over $6,000! It's absolutely ridiculous that a company would take your money, provide zero service, and then not stand behind their promises. The lack of communication, professionalism, and basic customer service is appalling. I would strongly advise anyone to stay far away from this service. Save yourself the headache, time, and money!

Terrible company, not so much for what they claim they can do but for steering customers into sketchy situations. When a company like Alleviate prey on customers to open new credit lines to pay them 13K (in my scenario) and steer you and your CPA into filing questionable documents... you need to question its real intent and ethics. File a complaint with your state Attorney General, Division of Consumer Affairs.

They are so deceitful. If you are questioning me and the other people who wrote poor reviews, I ask you to look closely. Most of the people who are angry and have negative reviews have spent a year or more with them. The glowing reviews are people who have just signed up in the last couple months. We have perspective and experience with this company. I hope you’ll make a different choice than I did

This company is an absolute scam! They’re nothing but crooks. They promise you the world when you first speak to them, but you’re not talking to a tax consultant—you’re talking to a salesman. A salesman! They dangle promises like they’ll reduce your debt or qualify you for some “Fresh Start Program,” but guess what? Those programs are already available to anyone who does a quick Google search or contacts the IRS Taxpayer Advocate Service directly—for free. If you’re dead set on hiring a company, find a local, reputable firm or CPA. These people don’t even let you come into their office, probably because they know their scam would fall apart in person. They’ll try to charge you $495 upfront, and if you say no, they’ll bully you into agreeing. If you hold out long enough, they’ll lower the fee to $195. It’s all about how much commission they can squeeze out of you—they don’t care about helping you. If you’re foolish enough to proceed, you’ll meet a so-called “supervisor” or “compliance officer,” who is just another glorified salesman trained to prey on your fear. They’ll spew lies about the IRS having “levels” like ACS, human interaction, revenue officers, and prison—all nonsense! The IRS will notify you if you’re in real trouble, but this company thrives on making you panic. And here’s the kicker: if you owe the IRS $10,000, they’ll charge you $8,000 to $9,000 just to handle it. Need tax prep? That’s another $1,000. And if you can’t afford it? No problem—they’ll “help” you get a personal loan with an absurd APR of 25–30%. Let’s do some math: $10,000 IRS debt + $8,000 fees + $3,000 in loan interest = double your original debt! And for what? An installment agreement you could’ve set up on your own or with the help of a local CPA for a fraction of the cost. If you think it can’t get worse, wait until you meet their so-called “backend team”—a bunch of high school kids and a handful of CPAs or attorneys who aren’t doing anything special. They’ll gaslight you, saying you didn’t send documents or respond on time, and they’ll hang up on you when you try to call them out. Run. Run as fast as you can from this place. They are manipulative, deceitful, and will leave you worse off than when you started. Don’t fall for their nonsense, and don’t let them twist this into “even Disney gets bad reviews.” They’re not Disney. They’re a scam. Thank you for coming to my angry TED Talk.
