Canadians beware
As Canadians we had a very difficult time with the group of all Americans. Our tour guide had difficulty communicating in English, and was overpowered by very domineering guests. They played basketball games on their phones while we were trying to hear and understand our guide. One wore clothing supporting Alex Jones, the Sandy Hook denier. We heard many 51st state comments. This might be acceptable to other Americans, but it felt like bullying to us. We communicated our feedback to A&R and they were initially receptive. Their response though was a credit for future use on a minimum 5 day tour, in the value of 5% of the cost of this trip. The hotels and transfers were fine, but we paid for a tour to have the information and education from a guide. We did not get that, and it had more value to us than 5% of the cost.
Response from Alexander + RobertsSep 9, 2025
Dear Ms. Lewis, As you know, we were deeply distressed by the behavior you described of three guests traveling with you in Japan, expressed personally to you by our Concierge on multiple occasions. We remain concerned with the aggression and rudeness displayed to you. Thus, in August we adjusted our terms and conditions for all guests to include this new provision: ‘Alexander+Roberts may require a guest to leave the tour if it is reasonably believed that the guest may adversely affect the safety, security, comfort, enjoyment or well-being of other guests.’ In recognition of your experience, we did provide a future credit per person that is combinable with all current offers, well in excess of 5% depending on the trip you might choose. We regret your experience and hope we might have the pleasure of servicing you once again. Thank you, Robert Drumm CEO
