Too expensive for mediocre doctor
It was dull. The dermatologist wasn't too sharp. And they charged far too much for nothing. I regret ever going there.

The first time I went there they put me in an exam room and left me there for 45 minutes with the little paper robe on, The air conditioning was running and I was cold. I finally opened the door and the girls were just sitting there . I asked if the Dr. was ever coming to see me. They forgot I was there and didn't tell her and nobody checked on a closed door. They did a biopsy on my cheek and it was cancerous. They gave me cream to put on for two months. I received a bill in the mail stating that I owed them $700, that insurance covered $76.30, that provider adjusted -$544.70, and that I paid -$66.12, and that I owed $13.54, which I paid. I called the bill payment line and asked for a detailed bill stating what $700was for. She kept telling me that it was all paid for and I said I knew it was, but I wanted to know exactly what it cost entailed. She was very evasive and finally she said she would send me an itemized bill on email. I tried three times to open the pdf file and it wouldn't open. I called back and told her to send it to me in the mail. She said it would take 2 to 3 weeks before I would get it. I told her I shouldn't have had such an awful time just to get an itemized bill. Their billing is very unorganized. I think there was some kind of scam where they could charge way too much so the insurance would pay it. When my insurance didn't pay enough they gave me money off saying it was provider adjusted. To me , this is unacceptable and I will be looking for another dermatologist to go to.

Company changed locations without proper notice. They did remind me of my upcoming appt. by text with address of business at bottom of text. Never read past reminder of appt as I have been to their location several timed. An alert notice at beginning of text would have been beneficial. Arriving seven minutes late I was told their was a 20.00 copay. I handed the lady a 20.00 bill but was told we don't accept cash (legal tender) Handing her my credit card she told me there would be a 3 % surcharge for using credit. I advised her that she had rejected cash and it was bad business to now apply a surcharge for credit. (poor business model) I told her to cancel my appointment as I would find another provider and left. I have always had good experience with Dr. Whitney but this business model is flawed and will not return.

My problem with Advanced Dermatology is their change in payment procedures. When I went to check-out, I had a $35 copay. When I offered a credit card to pay, I was told that I would be assessed an additional 3% of the copay amount. Apparently, this is to offset the fee that Advanced Dermatology is charged by credit card companies. So I offered to pay cash. But I was told that they do not accept cash. You can pay by credit card, check or debit card. Since I don't carry checks with me and do not have a debit card, my visit cost me 3% more. My advice to any customer of Advanced Dermatology is to ask them to bill you for the copay so that you can pay by check and avoid the extra charge.

My former dermatologist sold her practice to Advance Dermatology back in the mid-late 2000. I had loved the practice. Once Advanced Dermatology took over, the scheduling of appointments is unnecessarily complicate. No one can ever answer, they always have to call back in 24 hrs. You can never speak to the front desk of you local doctor's office. It really stinks. The doctors are not the problem, it is the micromanaging ot the way to actual speak to a human being. Also, they always try to schedule me with a Nurse Practioner when I want my doctor. I have about had it with them. Also they do not have a call back reminder system about appointments or email or text option to remind me of my appointment. I am old so that is important to help me be AT my appointment. I will be looking elsewhere

Waiting room so narrow that people have to pass right next to you. I caught a cold and am just glad it wasn’t COVID. The alleged skin check covered barely 60% of my skin. Like nobody ever got a skin disease on the other 40%. Prescribed for redness on my stomach without even looking at it. 3% surcharge for using a credit card is not the industry standard. Careless at best.

If you have a follow up appointment on something existing and they do nothing but tell you it looks good, you ARE GETTING CHARGED FOR IT!! Also, they charge one thing, then the doctor will recode the way they want, so they get paid more. Make sure you shop around! These guys are expensive and I wasn't that impressed with the care either.

They apparently do not have the No Surprise Billing act applying to them. Doctors and PA's from the same office can choose to or not choose specific insurance plans. We went to one on our plan and could not get back to see her so saw the PA who apparently was not in the plan. Why ever ask for insurance in advance if you plan to never see if it applies. How about a disclaimer that their individual doctors have different insurance plans. So now we have a huge bill that is normally $20.
