A stated reason their own escrow partner contradicted — documented
I sold my business through Acquire.com (transaction 13157004). After the deal failed to close because of the buyer’s unauthorized actions, Acquire’s representative issued firm “legal” determinations directing who kept the money and the asset — then retracted them in writing, conceding Acquire is not a party to the agreement and “does not make binding legal determinations.” Acquire then refused to relist my business, telling me Escrow.com had confirmed restrictions on my account. Escrow.com confirmed in writing the opposite: my account is in good standing, with no restrictions, current or historical. When I showed Acquire this, they abandoned that reason and switched to vague “discretion,” calling it “final.” Their brokerage affiliate kept a US$440 broker fee on a transaction that never closed. I’m not writing this out of anger — every sentence above is documented. My experience is that Acquire gave a specific reason its own escrow partner contradicts, then changed the reason when challenged. I’d encourage other founders to keep written records of everything and to verify any claim Acquire attributes to a third party.

Hi Tuna, I'm sorry to hear you had a frustrating experience. While I can't discuss the specifics of a transaction publicly, our decisions are made after carefully reviewing the circumstances and with the long-term integrity of the marketplace in mind. If you're open to it, I'd be happy to review everything personally. Please reach out to me directly at [email protected], and I'll take a look myself. – Andrew Gazdecki, CEO at Acquire
